[Blurb to be revised: ] Also known as So the Villain's Youngest Son Has Awakened
That day, as I lay unconscious with a high fever, I caught a hazy glimpse of my future.
I was the villain in a face-slapping revenge novel... or rather, the villain's youngest son. I was a minor cannon-fodder character, since my older brother was a major one.
In the novel, the author had assigned our entire family fixed roles. We were villains who got face-slapped by the protagonist, stepping stones for his career and love life. Our fate was to die horribly and give the protagonist his moment to shine.
My father was a wicked aristocrat who caused all kinds of trouble. He was a major villain, impressive enough that seeing him get face-slapped was satisfying. By the time I awakened, he had already been killed.
Now my brother was preparing to fight to the bitter end and avenge our father. I... I wanted to live... and I wanted my older brother to live, too. As the saying goes, better a bad life than a good death. As long as you live, there's still hope.
After killing my father, the protagonist approached me. I instinctively took a step back and closed my eyes, because I knew he was going to finish me off. My older brother shielded me, only to be kicked aside.
The protagonist grabbed me by the throat and chuckled. "Do you know how to be a dog?"
I nodded. Of course I knew.
When the protagonist was forced to serve our family, Father called him a dog, made him eat dog food and sleep in a kennel. I hadn't dared to defy Father; I just watched the protagonist get humiliated and beaten. So this was his revenge.
Not wanting to be beaten, I obediently rubbed my head against his palm and opened my mouth. "Woof..."
Several powerful top men stood beside the protagonist. Their eyes on me were terrifying and inscrutable. I knew their methods were even more ruthless, so my only option was to please the protagonist. I knew he was softer-hearted.
My older brother shouted and cursed. I gave him a look, pleading with him to stay quiet.
I wanted my brother and me to survive, so I was willing to be a dog.
"Good dog. Let's go home..."
The protagonist's voice was affectionate and gentle. I thought my life might get a little better.
But I never imagined I was stepping into an abyss, and the beginning of all my nightmares...
[Warning: A groveling-after-the-breakup arc, a protagonist adored by everyone. Turn off your brain while reading. The author's writing is amateurish, amateurish, amateurish!!!]
