The Young Couple in the Sevenies Apartment Block

1. Wen Jing's family of five is crammed into a tiny, crowded dormitory building at the textile mill. Her parents have one room, and the three sisters share another. There's barely enough room to turn over.

Later, her eldest sister gets married, leaving Wen Jing and her younger sister to squeeze into a new little bed. They often end up kicking each other in their sleep. By the time Wen Jing reaches marriageable age and the matchmaker comes calling, she has only one request: a spacious room and a big bed.

2. Wen Jing's fifth blind date is Xu Zhenglin, a technician at the textile mill. His family doesn't have the best reputation. People say his father is stingy, his mother is sharp-tongued, and his younger siblings are ill-mannered... That's why his marriage prospects have gone nowhere.

But the Xu family has been assigned the biggest room in the textile mill's residential compound, much to everyone's envy. They've even bought a big bed at the secondhand goods store for the wedding. And Xu Zhenglin is handsome and well-built, far better-looking than her first four blind dates. He outshines every man at the textile mill.

3. Later, at the textile mill's residential compound, the second daughter of the Su family, who got the smallest room, marries the eldest son of the Xu family, who got the biggest. Plenty of people worry that Wen Jing will be bullied by the family, fretting over her nonstop.

Only after she gets married does Wen Jing realize that Xu Zhenglin's father really is stingy, but that's because he hands over his entire salary. His mother really is sharp-tongued, but whenever someone insults her daughter-in-law, she charges in and spits out a stream of curses. As for Xu Zhenglin's younger siblings, they're so ill-mannered that they try to push their brother aside just to sit next to their sister-in-law and talk to her.

The only thing that doesn't live up to expectations is the big bed she'd been dreaming of. With all that space, the man beside her insists on squeezing close. He's even more pressed up against her than she and her younger sister were on their little bed.
