A Love Story in the Nineties

Ye Huan, whose courage was no bigger than a needlepoint, did two audacious things in her life.

The first was when her own father tried to sell her to an old widower for money. Ye Huan stole her father's cash and took her little sister on a three-day, three-night train ride to seek refuge with their great-aunt in faraway Guangzhou.

The second was when she was nearly out of options in Guangzhou and started dating Shen Di, the best-looking young hoodlum in their apartment block.

He was tall and tough, good at fighting, and owned an entire apartment building that he rented out.

The neighbors in the block all warned her that Shen Di was no good. He was lazy and had no future. Apart from owning a building, there was nothing good about being with him. He had no heart.

Ye Huan didn't think it mattered, because she wasn't serious about him either.

She only wanted to run a street stall with Shen Di to make money, save up ten thousand yuan, then break up with him and survive with her sister...

But many, many years later, Ye Huan, now a landlady with a whole apartment building of her own, wondered why the money in her piggy bank was always stuck at 9,999 yuan.
