Shuli died in the icy waters of a winter pond.
In the pond along the path to Tang Di’s family home, a bright and radiant young girl disappeared beneath the water.
Tang Di went on a trip after graduating from her final year of high school. When she came back, she heard the terrible news. As Shuli’s classmate for three years, she couldn’t help feeling sad when she heard, and even snuck over to shed a few tears.
Later, she went to college in another province. She only returned home for the New Year each year, but she would still walk through the snow to stand by the pond for a while and shed a few tears.
But the neighbors brought up the pond and Shuli less and less often.
Then their old neighborhood was demolished, and the pond was drained and filled in.
Then Tang Di opened her eyes to find Shuli watching her anxiously.
Shuli clasped her fingers together, breathing softly. Her voice was gentle and sweet.
“Tang Di~~, would you be my friend?”
Tang Di blinked, then came to her senses and nodded gently. “Sure.”
Only later did she realize that she and Shuli had known each other for so long.
That Shuli wasn’t as gloomy and withdrawn as she had imagined.
Given another chance at life,
Tang Di understood that Shuli was radiant and lovely.
Shuli was the most precious gift, waiting quietly in some corner of this world for Tang Di to unwrap.
