GB After the Undercover Mission Fails

A conventional historical romance GB setting [Beautiful, ruthless empress x fallen untouchable beauty]

In the final years of Chengping, imperial power was divided three ways, and the first signs of chaos appeared.

Rong Xichuan of the Duke of Rong's household wrote the Kangqu Policy, which scholars across the land competed to recite. The emperor personally named him top scholar.

At sixteen, Rong Xichuan was like a bright, radiant moon.

But before that moon could rise into the sky, the Grand Tutor convicted the entire Duke of Rong's household of treason and sentenced them to execution. The emperor showed mercy, changing the sentence from execution to exile.

The people sighed that such a bright moon had lasted no longer than a shooting star.

Rong Xichuan was fortunate enough to remain in the capital. By imperial command, he went undercover in the princess's residence.

But over the next few years, the emperor died, the Grand Tutor was killed, and the loathed Eldest Princess took command of the army and ascended the throne.

The moon of those years was clouded over. The empress gripped Rong Xichuan's chin. "All for your family? Then I'll make sure your family has nothing to worry about, and that every friend and relative abandons you."

Qin Zhao smiled. Her bright red-painted nails traced Rong Xichuan's refined features. "Betraying me is unforgivable."

"Have the Rong family erase you from their clan register, then come into the palace with me and become the lowest-ranking slave."

Qin Zhao stood high above him, while Rong Xichuan knelt without rising.

But no one knew that in the pitch-black night of her lonely journey, sixteen-year-old Rong Xichuan had already been a moon hanging high in the sky for her, the only pure thing in a festering mire.
