[Short Story]
Shen Ji was a special kind of psychologist who helped people organize their memories.
One day, a half-transparent spirit barged into his studio, introduced himself as Xiao Jide, and chattered nonstop all morning.
Shen Ji thought he was a nuisance. Frowning, he coldly ordered him out. "Get out. Stop getting in the way."
But Xiao Jide said, "I'm sticking with you, because you're the only one who can see me."
At some point, Shen Ji began instinctively saving a place for him when he drifted unsteadily. When Xiao Jide played tricks on him, Shen Ji would scold him for being ungrateful, but secretly reach out to steady him.
The inexplicable closeness Shen Ji felt toward Xiao Jide grew stronger and stronger, making him anxious and unsettled.
So he started being mean to him and driving him away again. "If you keep clinging to me, I'll make you disappear for good."
But Xiao Jide was not afraid. He continued rubbing his soft cheek against Shen Ji's hand, smiling until his eyes curved like crescent moons. "Shen Ji, you clearly can't bear to lose me~"
Later, Xiao Jide grew more and more transparent, on the verge of vanishing. Only then did Shen Ji finally understand:
He had never tried to drive Xiao Jide away because he hated him. He was afraid he could not hold on to this light that had suddenly appeared in his life.
That inexplicable closeness had never been a coincidence. It was an attachment etched into his soul, one that had crossed through time.
The moment Xiao Jide vanished, all of Shen Ji's memories fully returned. Only then did he understand that the person he had driven away was the young man who had loved him for many years and waited for him for just as long.
"Lin Miao." He held his empty arms, his face cold, though his fingertips clenched until they turned white. His hard voice could not hide its slight tremble. "I really can't bear to lose you."
