Reader Advisory
[Important] Contains gory, bloody descriptions. This is cosmic horror, and the author is a little unhinged and wanted to write them, so if that's not your thing, run, run, run!!!!! (Hauling a train and fleeing overnight)
The author is a beginner, and the writing isn't very good.
Second revision: A huge source of embarrassment!!!! Contains all kinds of OOC moments and cringey middle-school chuunibyou plots!! Abandoned, strongly not recommended (prostrates)
.
The protagonists are mythological creatures: beings with nothing to do with humanity, who may even attack humans. Even if some mythological creatures get along well with humans, they don't interact as equals (though I might not be able to convey that feeling).
So canon characters may be put through the wringer (just a little).
But most of the time, it's all [Just a god's task].
I've only watched some of the cases in Detective Conan and know a few things. I'm a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos, but no expert, so feel free to point out mistakes in the comments (gently).
*
Highlight: Do not read this as proper cosmic horror!!!! The author can't write that kind of atmosphere either (cries). It has some Call of Cthulhu tabletop role-playing elements.
There are group chats early on, but later it moves to face-to-face confrontations in a secret underground base (points).
*
I've only outlined the beginning and ending. For everything in between, I'll just write whatever comes to mind.
The mythological creatures gained intelligence through a science-themed pretend-play game. Most of the time, they won't lose their minds and hurt people (probably).
There are some forum elements (but not many).
Blurb: The Great Crawling Chaos gave the mythological creatures, who were all busy doing their own thing, one mighty punch and sent them flying into the world of Detective Conan. His excuse was:
“Humanity's feelings of regret are so intense, and little Nyarlathotep can't stand seeing people get hurt.”
The mythological creatures: Furious, but afraid to speak up.
A certain Chaos: “You can wreak havoc in this world all you like, but don't hurt the protagonists, okay? (Wink)”
So, to protect the fragile mental health of humans, the mythological creatures put on human skins and blended in, learning how to be bona fide humans.
No pretending you know humans from the internet.
.
.
In the middle of the night, in an underground secret base connected by a magical door.
.
“Come out, you moldy fungus, let's fight!! So you're the damn Yuggothian Fungus!”
.
After taking off their human disguises, the mythological creatures enjoyed a not-so-peaceful time, engaging in uranium-hydrogen fission conversations.
As the last safe haven for mythological creatures in the world of Detective Conan, these misshapen, grotesque monsters came up with all sorts of games to entertain themselves.
Including, but not limited to:
Livestreaming a teammate's human disguise rebelling
“Ah... Huh?? You mean a human disguise can actually become real??”
Livestreaming a teammate's acting skills going into overdrive as they leave the ordinary humans on the other side completely dumbfounded
“I've fooled more investigators than all the murder cases you've ever seen.”
Exchanging their views on the plot.
.
“What's the point of discussing this? Aren't we all just saying our own thing??”
.
Digging up teammates' embarrassing scenes on the forum and mercilessly mocking them, just to make sure their infighting doesn't die down.
Reading human madness literature aloud in public until the creature in question curls its toes hard enough to dig out R'lyeh.
“I'll kill you, you stinking ghoul!!!!”
And so on and so forth
The lava deep underground is just the right temperature.
The secret base is as chaotic, twisted, and blasphemous as ever today.
Another warning:
(There'll be more human-disguise stuff early on. I'll try to include more cosmic horror descriptions. Also, I really can't write deep, close friendships, especially when this group is made up of nonhumans from different species. So, uh, it'll just be some shallow, mutually beneficial relationships.
This is a pure wish-fulfillment story written for my own enjoyment. I'll save any Detective Conan characters whose unresolved fates I know about, if I can. If there's a character whose fate you wish had turned out differently, tell me the episode number in the comments. I might just add it!)
Theme: Science can only explain why something exists, not why something doesn't.
