Long Live the Princess

Zhan Yan was born a favored daughter of Heaven, the only princess left by the late emperor. She grew up in the deep palace, beautiful and well-behaved.

When the rebel army besieged the city, she drank poison. As she lay dying, she saw her consort lead troops into the palace and brutally chop off her imperial brother's head.

Reborn, Zhan Yan was still shaken. She dealt with him cautiously, wanting only to save the realm and its people from disaster.

Her consort, You Qianche, had a secret. Ever since the day he met the princess, he had often dreamed of her. In those dreams, they shared a tender night beneath warm bed curtains, and the princess was gentle, affectionate, soft, and alluring.

At first, he put on an act of warmth and refinement. He and the princess were perfectly in tune, and deeply in love.

Then he realized she was the one pretending. She had deceived him into falling helplessly in love with her, while suspecting him of being a treacherous rebel. All her tenderness had been meant to persuade him to remain loyal to that foolish, incompetent tyrant.

You Qianche was furious, and he really did rebel.

The timid princess yielded at every turn. Even when she scolded him, her voice was timid and uncertain. She asked, "You... what is it you want?"

He gently nibbled her cherry-red lips and spoke softly. "Your Highness, this humble subject only wants your sincere affection."

The advisers who followed You Qianche into rebellion admired the You family's integrity and methods. They were convinced You Qianche had endured humiliation by marrying the princess for the sake of his grand ambitions.

Little did they know that after overthrowing the tyrant, You Qianche would hand the throne to the timid, gentle princess, willingly prostrating himself at her feet to serve as her consort and adviser.
