1. Ming Yue was adopted by the Ming family and should have been given a new life.
But after the Mings had a biological child, Ming Yue ran a high fever that wouldn't go down. No one took him to the hospital, and from then on, he was blind.
At dusk, the Ming family's courtyard was brightly lit. Laughter filled the house as everyone fussed over the one-year-old younger brother. Ming Yue sat by the courtyard gate, clutching his hungry stomach. Time and again, he thought about reminding the adults that he hadn't eaten yet.
Before he could speak, he heard someone call out to him.
“Are you a child from this family?”
“What's your name?”
“My name's Yan Shen! You can call me big brother!”
“Little brother, you're so pretty!”
2. On the first day after moving in, Yan Shen, a little demon king, brought home the boy from next door.
He gave him food and clothes, then asked if he wanted to stay at his house and be his wife.
Five-year-old Ming Yue: “Aren't wives girls?”
Seven-year-old Yan Shen: “You're my wife! You're the one I'm marrying!”
Yan Shen's parents, coming home: “…”
3. The Ming family wanted to send Ming Yue back to the orphanage. Ming Yue stayed quiet and still. He couldn't even cry.
Suddenly, firecrackers went off in the courtyard.
Yan Shen charged in, banging drums and gongs, and thanked the Mings: “Great! If you won't raise him, I will!”
Yan Shen's parents, coming home to find yet another child in the house: “…”
4. For the sake of appearances, Ming Yue was left with the Ming family, who barely paid any attention to him. Yan Shen, however, took care of him.
Yan Shen made sure he had food and clothes, helped him with his studies, and even managed his bedtime.
Yan Shen grew up to be just as much of a little demon king as ever, though he didn't get into fights as often.
Until one day, someone said, “Yan Shen, there's a blind guy waiting for you.”
When Ming Yue rushed over, Yan Shen was pinning that person to the ground and beating him up. Ming Yue couldn't see clearly and anxiously called Yan Shen's name, his voice breaking into a sob.
Yan Shen, who'd been looking fierce just a moment ago, immediately stopped, looking like a child who'd done something wrong.
5. When Ming Yue was eighteen, he dreamed that he was actually a cannon-fodder character in a book, while his childhood friend Yan Shen was the protagonist.
The Ming family would be driven to bankruptcy by Yan Shen, and Ming Yue would die for refusing to give up on Yan Shen and not knowing when to quit.
Later, the Ming family really did go bankrupt. But Ming Yue…
Ming Yue was held in Yan Shen's arms, forced again and again to call him big brother.
