Transmigrated into a Caged Bird, I Got a Happy Ending with the CEO’s Stepson

[After talking with my editor, I found out that, because of the subject matter, I can't write some of the things in the original setup. I'll revise the blurb later (prostrates). The core will still be a goofy, sweet transmigration-into-a-book story. That won't change. I'll mainly adjust the characters' roles. I'm so sorry! This silly author is bowing her head first!]

Jiang Xian transmigrates into a book and becomes a wealthy CEO's substitute canary. Unfortunately, the CEO isn't the protagonist, but a stepping stone on the male lead Nan Huilin's rise to power.

Jiang Xian: This is hilarious. What era is this, still doing the substitute thing? I'm out.

Then he learns that his original self is buried in debt, and sees the CEO's jaw-droppingly lucrative contract.

Jiang Xian: A million in spending money every month? I'm definitely taking this canary job!

Unlike the book, the CEO falls from power ahead of schedule. And why does the male lead look so much like that hapless coworker who used to call him brother?

From the male lead's perspective:

Nan Huilin first saw Jiang Xian at his stepfather's suburban villa. The exquisitely handsome mixed-race young man sat by the window, like a fragile rose about to break. He was beautiful and silent, and his eyes were full of love only when he looked at his stepfather. Nan Huilin had always looked down on people consumed by love, until after a few more encounters...

Jiang Xian: Bro, quit scowling all the time. Your big brother here is generous and doesn't make demands. Show a little professionalism and get moving!

Nan Huilin: ?

Bonus scene

Halfway through the story, Jiang Xian watches the CEO and his white moonlight act out a melodramatic chase, one running after the other. Deeply moved, he turns away, wipes away a fake tear, and says, "I hope they stay together forever."

Thinking he's upset, Nan Huilin asks in surprise, "What about you?"

Jiang Xian: "Me? I'm taking the car."

Nan Huilin: ...
