Everyone in the Alliance probably knows that Ji Xiao and Ruan Qiling are bitter enemies.
After years of war, the insect population has dwindled. Actively claiming new territory on desolate planets, breeding new insects, and recuperating have become the primary goals shared by every branch.
But there are many male insects and few female insects, so the male rulers of each tribe are always expected to shoulder the responsibility and seize every chance for a political marriage.
Among them, the Lan Yin Insect Tribe has become a coveted prize, like the bright moon itself.
This small tribe is known as the "Diamond Insect Tribe." Every member is female, and the females are breathtakingly beautiful, said to outshine even the aurora. They excel at astral arts that bring clarity to the mind, and there's one more thing...
...It's said that when paired with someone highly compatible, they can lay plenty of eggs. They're very fertile.
They really are the perfect choice for a wife, except for the fact that their tribe has a cold, aloof female ruler who always wears a stern expression and is so formidable in battle that everyone who tries to approach her is intimidated.
As a leader, Ji Xiao had never set his sights on the Diamond Insect Tribe.
He just wanted to take it easy and muddle along, leading everyone in reclaiming land, farming, and building infrastructure. But with an SSS-ranked combat ability and looks that were second to none, even though he had no intention of being a womanizer, little females from other tribes kept coming over with flushed cheeks to confess their feelings, while other leaders kept proposing political marriages...
And so, for no reason at all, he earned a whole lot of enemies. That cold, aloof beauty was always keeping an eye on him, trying to "uphold justice" by eliminating this peerless playboy.
Ji Xiao had been beaten into submission and was terrified of fighting her. He couldn't bring himself to kill such a beautiful woman, but if he held back too much, he might lose his life. All he could do was tease her while running away each time.
Until news got out that he had "agreed to a political marriage." His nemesis, Ruan Qiling, went berserk and stubbornly refused to give up a stretch of unclaimed wasteland that had practically nothing to do with him.
Left with no choice, Ji Xiao had to fight him.
Their battle raged on until the astral energy went out of control, attracting a mysterious secret realm.
Chaos and disorder... began just like that.
Ruan Qiling had a perfect chance to kill him. Ji Xiao was already badly wounded, and Ruan Qiling had his dagger raised, when Ji Xiao suddenly grinned foolishly and said, "My wife is so beautiful."
Ruan Qiling: "...Who is your wife?"
Ji Xiao: "Don't be scared, honey. I'll protect you. I'll definitely get you out of here."
Ruan Qiling: "..."
Not only did he fail to kill Ji Xiao, he also got stuck with him. Little by little, Ji Xiao wore down his defenses, and before he knew it... they had done everything they should and shouldn't have.
By the time Ruan Qiling escaped the secret realm and fled back to his territory in a sorry state, the situation had already changed beyond repair.
And he never could have imagined that the next time he saw Ji Xiao, he would be in an even more miserable state.
Ji Xiao, having lost his memories of the secret realm for the second time and thinking himself hilarious: "Well, well, long time no see. How did you end up living off scavenging? Need a hand? First, say 'please.'"
Ruan Qiling swallowed his anger. His right hand quietly settled over his slightly rounded, faintly aching belly. Cold as a butterfly with broken wings, he said, "...Hmph. Please."
A ridiculously popular, overpowered top who only wants to laze around and keep a low profile VS a haughty, cold beauty with a lofty bearing, outwardly aloof but inwardly tender, who's secretly soft and stubborn
A few things to know before reading:
1. You can tell from the title and blurb... this story has its share of heartbreak! Overall, it's bittersweet. I feel for the bottom too, but... if you can't handle it, run! This one's not for you!
2. This is a self-indulgent story written from the top's perspective, though the POVs of the top and bottom sometimes alternate. It's still a one-on-one romance, with both leads inexperienced, and a happy ending.
3. The top and bottom have always had mutual feelings for each other, but there's a misunderstanding. The bottom's insect baby belongs to the top.
4. This is my take on a space setting... Don't look for logic, and it offers no educational value! [Important] The values of certain insect tribes, who want to breed more because their population has suffered, do not represent the author's values. The author supports freedom in all forms of love, marriage, and childbearing! You know what I mean. I just want to write a little bit of that sort of thing in a roundabout way (ahem)... Please don't take it too seriously, little angels, sob sob QAQ.
