[My next novel, The Princess's Blade, is coming up. If you're interested, check it out in my profile!]
Private detective Qin Sheng transmigrates into an unfinished crime novel with no CP and becomes one of the victims in a serial murder case, destined to die horribly.
Qin Sheng inherits the original owner's memories and learns why the book was never finished: the original heroine died!
Qin Sheng: "..."
Well, that's certainly unexpected...
With her murder imminent, Qin Sheng knows that the only way to survive is to solve the case first.
While investigating the serial murders, she meets the heroine, Qi Xuesong.
Their first meeting:
Qi Xuesong: "Hello, Qi Xuesong from the Special Investigation Team."
Qin Sheng gives her a regretful look. "I know. The unlucky heroine..."
Qi Xuesong: "???"
At first, Qi Xuesong doesn't like Qin Sheng.
She's flippant, willful, and doesn't follow the rules.
When she pieces together a case, her imagination runs wild. She's always flippant and never acts serious.
Qi Xuesong, who is serious and proper, can't stand that about her.
Later, in a narrow, shadowy crime scene, Qi Xuesong pins Qin Sheng against a wall and silently kisses the corner of her lips.
With her eyes, she tells her:
"We'll both survive, and then we'll fall in love!"
The novel goes premium on December 15. Three chapters will be posted that day.
[Reader's guide]
1. A fictional modern crime and investigation mystery. Everything is made up, so don't take it as fact.
2. The author isn't a professional, so some of the logic may be imprecise, and some professional terms and positions may not match reality. Please don't nitpick. Corrections and friendly discussion are welcome.
3. The crime investigation details in the novel are based on references, which are noted in the author's comments.
4. Neither heroine is perfect. They're both ordinary people and may have some minor flaws.
5. The romance is a slow burn at first. Captain Qi doesn't appear in the first few chapters.
Upcoming novel: The Princess's Blade
A victorious warrior noblewoman versus a master strategist princess
Thirteen-year-old Junzhu Huan Xu mounted her horse with a spear in hand and led a legendary army of women across the northern frontier.
In the hearts of the people of Yunzhou, she is their guardian deity of war.
In the eyes of the court officials, she is a wicked, arrogant, murderous menace who defies her sovereign and violates the natural order.
Huan Xu doesn't care what people think. No one can catch the eye of the undefeated goddess of war. If she had to name someone, it would be Xuan Jingyu, who grew up with her.
To the young Huan Xu, Xuan Jingyu was the most talented person in the world, aloof and self-possessed, the brightest, noblest, most independent person in all of Dayu.
But when Huan Xu returned to the capital at the emperor's command to report on her duties, she received an imperial decree of marriage. The emperor was marrying the eldest princess, Xuan Jingyu, to Huan Xu's second brother, who was already gravely ill.
What enraged her most was that the decree had been issued at Xuan Jingyu's own request.
2.
The most favored princess in Dayu has two secrets:
First, she wants to avenge her mother.
Second, she wants to become emperor.
To achieve her goals, she has worked herself to the bone and plotted for years. She even arranged for the emperor to approve her marriage to the dying Prince of Jingbei.
Under the pretext of delivering the decree, the princess travels north on the emperor's behalf to inspect the frontier, accompanied by Huan Xu, the Prince of Jingbei's younger sister.
But she never imagined that the Prince of Jingbei she would meet upon reaching Yunzhou was the very person who had traveled there with her all along: Huan Xu.
Huan Xu traps her in a room and pins her against the wall. Her eyes blaze with fury as she says through gritted teeth, "I told you before, you'd regret this!"
But after her initial shock, Xuan Jingyu quickly regains her composure. She lifts a hand to grip Huan Xu's chin and says softly, "Then I'll regret it even less."
3.
The court officials all say Huan Xu is a mad, murderous fiend, but Huan Xu thinks Xuan Jingyu is the real madwoman.
The princess she once regarded as proud and noble has somehow become a liar, full of schemes and falsehoods.
Xuan Jingyu never hides her ambition, her calculations, or the way she uses Huan Xu. Huan Xu is on her guard at every turn, yet still falls into her trap, helplessly.
They embrace and kiss, but neither can see the other's true feelings.
Huan Xu likes to embrace Xuan Jingyu from behind, so she doesn't have to let Xuan Jingyu see the affection in her eyes.
She asks, "Your Highness, did I do well?"
4.
Standing on the beacon tower and gazing out at the windswept sands of the northern desert, Huan Xu hears Xuan Jingyu's ambition and wish clearly above the howling wind.
"I want to unite the realm and usher in an age of lasting prosperity. I want to build a golden age where women can hold office at court, become nobles, and serve as ministers."
Theme: Justice endures forever.
