Hunting, Farming, and Raising a Husband

Dongge from Tonghua Alley has run away!

They say he fled after hearing that the Bai family was going to sell him to a widowed drunkard for ten taels of silver.

The residents of Tonghua Alley had plenty to say. "Dongge is so ugly, all hunched over, with a dark face and hands like claws. Being chosen is a blessing for him!"

"Dongge is eighteen. Even an older fellow like him has someone willing to marry him. That's something to celebrate."

Some sensible people scolded them. "Bah! Ever since Old Master Bai died, Dongge has worked like an ox and a horse for the Bai family for years, only to end up being sold. It's just not right... It's just not right..."

Meanwhile, the homely Ye Rendong walked along the mountain path all night and found a thatched hut at the foot of the mountain where he could stay.

The hut was dilapidated, with no neighbors nearby.

Still, he was content to call it home, since at least one room was intact.

He occasionally went into the mountains to dig up vegetables or down to the river to catch fish. His life was no worse than it had been with the Bai family.

From the gong's perspective:

Cheng Langyu went to war at sixteen. Four years later, he was lucky enough to make it home alive.

But his stepmother was cruel. Under cover of night, she dumped his badly wounded self at the old house and left him to die.

He thought that when he opened his eyes again, he would be in hell. Instead, he saw a timid-looking young man with eyes as clear as a deer in the forest.

While Cheng Langyu was injured, the young man brought him tea and water, wiped him down, changed his bandages, and nursed him back to health.

To repay this kindness, Cheng Langyu took the initiative to help him, farming, hunting, and earning money. Before he knew it, he had given him a home.

Note:

1. A slow-burn farming story with childbirth.

2. The leads will be raising two little ones early on. They're the younger siblings born to the gong's stepmother.

(If that's not your thing, no pressure. Please be kind, thanks.)
