Synopsis

[Blurb] Historical records say that in 1044 BC, King Wu of Zhou led an attack on King Zhou of Shang and brought down the Shang Dynasty. King Zhou of Shang burned himself to death atop the Star-Picking Tower in Chaoge City. The legend of stars filling the sky, so close one could reach up and pluck them, collapsed in a single night. Amid the raging flames, he saw the beautiful woman’s lips move. “Xuanyuan Hill has long been abandoned by the gods. My name is not on the Investiture of the Gods. Liu Er, go become a Buddha. Chaoge City is where I belong.” Buddha said: Life has eight kinds of suffering: birth, aging, illness, death, separation from those we love, resentment that lasts, wanting what we cannot have, and being unable to let go. [Blurb captured on 2022.05.13] Theme: The mortal world is a hundred feet deep, and life is full of suffering.
