There are four broad categories of supernatural abilities: enhancement, the five elements, transformation, and fantasy. Of them, fantasy abilities are the rarest and weakest.
As told by ability users at universities across the country
Chen Chaori woke up one day to find the world had changed beyond recognition. Before he could figure out what was going on, he was tested and found to have a supernatural ability. He was assigned to the class that university ability users called the weakest.
At universities for ability users, “fantasy” was another way of saying that no one could figure out what kind of ability you had.
During a group class on hunting monsters, Chen Chaori was mocked for being unable to use his ability. In ability demonstrations, he was sneered at and told he'd be better off as an ordinary person. At the school-wide ability tournament, Chen Chaori's entire fantasy class forfeited, bringing the mockery of ability users to a fever pitch.
Then a massive wave of monsters invaded. The school's teachers and students were all sent away, the city fell, and the fantasy class, left behind to defend the school, stepped forward.
Chen Chaori, mocked as a “white-lotus saint,” looked at the wave of demons and monsters charging toward him, closed his eyes, and lightly tapped his foot. Every demon and monster of his descendants' generation died.
The long-haired man, mocked as a “bookworm,” pulled out the book he treasured most. With a sweep of his brush, a vast swath of demons and monsters vanished into dust.
The man mocked as a “blind man” took off his sunglasses. His snake-like pupils swept over the demons and monsters, turning them to stone and leaving them unable to move.
The man and woman mocked as a “drum fanatic” and a “narcissist” took out their linked drums and twin mirrors. In an instant, lightning and thunder filled the sky, blasting the demons and monsters to pieces.
Just five of them killed tens of millions of demons and monsters outside the city. From then on, no one dared call fantasy ability users useless. No one dared laugh at them.
