The novel is complete. Please add my upcoming novel, The Little Doctor of the Outer City of the Capital, to your reading list. It's also about a forensic examiner. See the full blurb below.
About this novel
Lin Ying transmigrated into this world and learned that the Gu family was hiring a maid for a special line of work. Determined to change her fate, she pulled out all the stops and won the position.
Lin Ying, now eating at the Gu family's table: This is the life!
Lord Gu was an upright man, old enough to be her grandfather. He was also a workaholic, skilled in criminal law and the investigation of cases.
When examining female corpses, one must not shy away out of embarrassment. But with a woman's reputation at stake, Lord Gu faced considerable resistance in promoting the practice. He therefore intended to train women to examine corpses and reduce that resistance.
The Gu family selected a maid to accompany him so Lin Ying could help Lord Gu examine female corpses, run errands, and gather information. Lin Ying was doing several jobs at once, and they were all skilled work. She felt she was earning every bit of her monthly wages from the Gu family.
The Imperial Prison Bureau of this dynasty served as the emperor's eyes and ears, gathering intelligence from across the realm. Its chief, Su Lian, was a deep and inscrutable man who let nothing slip. His one flaw was being an extremely picky eater. Lord Gu, appointed to a post away from the capital, was a renowned minister of the age and a key person of interest to the Imperial Prison Bureau. So it wasn't long before news that Lord Gu had taken on a new maid reached Su Lian.
Su Lian raised an eyebrow. "Oh..."
A few notes before reading: This is a fictional setting with a hodgepodge of worldbuilding and some original details. Please don't overanalyze it. I'll do my best to research the professional knowledge involved in the heroine's work, but I may miss something. Please let me know if you spot any errors.

Lin Weishu was seventeen. Her family was ruined when she was young, and after her father died, she and her mother moved to the outer city.
While her father was alive, she had nearly been engaged to Xuan Ying, the second son of the Marquis of Yong'an. Now their families were no longer a suitable match, and she had heard nothing further.
After the start of spring this year, Lin Weishu began studying medicine under Lady Xin.
Lady Xin was no ordinary female physician. Xin Huai had once organized relief efforts during an epidemic in Jiangnan, saving countless lives, and the court had rewarded her by making her a county lady. She was also close to the Princess Consort of Prince Cheng, knew many noblewomen, and had helped the poor and those in danger throughout the capital. People regarded her as a living bodhisattva. Even officials from scholarly families praised her highly.
With a reputation and connections like hers, studying medicine under her, even without officially becoming her disciple, could bring prestige and help Lin Weishu find a promising future and a good marriage.
But Lady Xin seemed born without a smile and wasn't easy to approach.
Lin Weishu learned excellent medical skills, which she used not only to treat the living, but also to help examine corpses and solve cases. She only hoped Lady Xin wouldn't find out, and tried not to think beyond that.
Unexpectedly, Lady Xin wanted to take her on as a disciple. And after Lin Weishu solved two cases in a row, she gradually became famous in the capital.
When Lin Weishu was living in the outer city, the eldest young master of the Shen family from the Duke of Guo's household moved in next door.
Shen You had been frail as a child, so his family had sent him to a temple. He was also extremely gentle and easygoing by nature.
When Lin Weishu met him, he had gone deaf in both ears while saving his mother, and had been rejected by his own family in return. He was terribly pitiful.
The young master Shen was handsome and had a lovely temperament.
As they grew closer, Shen You cared for her in every possible way. He checked in on her, helped her investigate cases, and took thoughtful care of her whenever she fell ill.
Even when Lin Weishu was on her period, he would considerately bring her a hot-water bottle to warm her stomach.
Blushing, Lin Weishu felt embarrassed, but she couldn't help falling for Shen You, too.
She was perceptive and thought he might feel the same way, so she was quite sure their feelings could be mutual.
Who would have thought that when she confessed first, Shen You would reject her, making the situation painfully awkward?
Later, she realized Shen You was not what he seemed. He wasn't as kind, approachable, witty, and cheerful as he appeared. In private, he was cruel and ruthless; he was simply good at pretending.
Lin Weishu put her feelings aside and quietly kept her distance, intending to withdraw.
Shen You noticed, too. Like a venomous snake bred in the damp darkness of a hidden sewer, he seemed to become a completely different person.
"Miss Lin, didn't you say you had feelings for me? You still do, don't you?"
His words were soft, but two points of burning light gleamed in his shadowed, inscrutable eyes.
He seemed unable to bear Lin Weishu saying no.
Lin Weishu got angry, too, and snapped, "No!"
Shen You froze, clearly flustered and losing control. "No?"
Shen You, the handsome eldest grandson of the Duke of Wei, was renowned for his kind and gentle temperament. Secretly, he was the leader of the Secret Eyes, highly valued by the new emperor. In private, however, Shen You was a wicked demon with nothing but a beautiful face. He fed on the greed and malice of others, manipulating their hearts to nourish his hollow, pallid soul.
He loved controlling people's hearts and collecting their secrets. If he wished, any noble of the court or upright scholar-official could become no more than a puppet in his palm, tugged by invisible strings and made to dance to his tune.
At first, he only wanted to lure Lin Weishu into becoming another useful tool.
Even when Lin Weishu took the initiative to confess, it was just an unexpected situation he didn't need to accept.
But he was so delighted that it felt like an electric current ran from the tips of his hair to his toes.
Then he began to regret his decision, and earnestly wondered how he could make Lin Weishu change her mind.
In a dark, damp place, a bright flower bloomed.
Hypocritical, brooding male ghost x pretty, clever young woman
The blurb focuses on the romance; the novel itself features investigations.
Theme: Change your fate through your own hard work.
It's so beautiful, the plot has ups and downs! I just can't help but complain about the emperor. There are rebels everywhere. Sooner or later the pill will be taken.
It turns out that the male and female protagonists have a relationship for a long time. It's not bad, it's a match made in heaven!
Isn't Wen Yun dead? It must be Wen Qingti, I wrote a string about it hahaha
Love this one! Even though I have a career, I don't delay falling in love, I love it! And I feel that the characterization of the wife is getting better and better, and many of the supporting characters are also very important ~ The next book is Xianxia again. I love reading it (rubbing my hands)
I like it, I thought there would be a little cub
Finished reading! ! ! Finished with flowers, but too little sugar! ! !
I enjoyed watching the case, but the emotional line was a bit thinned and not enough to watch. Wow.
The article needs to be revised. There are too many character names, which affects the perception.
"In the mourning hall." This is a big bug for the author~

It's nice. It's nice. You know how to write.
