After Seducing and Abandoning the God of Wine [Greek Mythology]

Ariadne, princess of the sea kingdom, found a man on the beach. He had lost all his memories, but his handsome features and fine clothes suggested he was a nobleman who had survived a shipwreck. Ariadne hid him in a cottage in the palace gardens and named him Dimetor, meaning "born twice," because thanks to her, he had been given a second life. The two grew close, then secretly vowed to spend their lives together. But Ariadne's reasons for taking him in were not entirely innocent: She hoped Dimetor would regain his memories and help her escape the parents who wanted to sacrifice her to the sea god. But Dimetor never remembered who he was. So when the chance to leave her homeland finally came, Ariadne and Dimetor parted without a word, and she boarded another man's ship. Ariadne began a new life. Or so she thought. Instead, she woke on an unfamiliar beach. A black-haired young man looked down at her. His familiar, handsome face seemed inexplicably strange. "Dimetor...?" "My true name is Dionysus. Zeus is my father, and I have a home in the sacred realm atop Olympus's snowy peaks." He chuckled softly, as if her shock pleased him. The god of wine, madness, and revelry brushed his thumb over her lips. His touch was gentle, but a strange fire flickered deep in his eyes. "Daughter of the King of Crete, would you like me to help you remember? You have yet to fulfill your promise to become my bride." I hate and love. "Why is it like this?" you may ask. I don't know, but this is what I feel, and it torments me. Catullus, Poems, 85 * The Greek mythology version of "Don't casually pick up men by the roadside, and don't casually throw them away once you're done with them." Happy ending. * Includes: seduction and abandonment, corruption, faked death. * The protagonists' translated names are very long, but I can't help that. Their names in mythology really are that long. Dimetor is one of Dionysus's epithets, meaning "born twice." * Set in a parallel world to the completed Greek mythology novels After Abandoning Apollo and She Is Blessed by the Gods. There are no crossover elements in the main story. This is not a series. * The cover is John William Waterhouse's 1898 oil painting Ariadne. Image source: user Plum Leaves, Flickr.
