The short story collection Love Stories from Legendary Binhai is an adaptation of the first volume of Li Lan's novel The Legend of Binhai, titled The Legendary Romance of Binhai. It has been revised, expanded, and rewritten. Through Song Yusheng's experiences of love, the collection praises sincere and noble love, criticizes misguided beliefs and behaviors about love, and portrays the different ways people think about and understand love. It also exposes the oppression imposed on the Chinese people by the Japanese invaders and their collaborators, as well as their destruction of love. The original novel had six chapters.
