At her first glance of Jiang Yanwang, Zhu Shuyi instinctively knew he was dangerous and not someone to mess with.
So she kept her distance, steering clear of him and doing her best not to provoke him.
For years, she was not only a stranger to him, but also perfectly invisible.
Until, before he went abroad, he coldly and mockingly clamped a hand around her neck. "You think this makes things better?"
Years later, her boyfriend brought her to a party.
The man sat high above everyone else, chatting with others in a nonchalant manner. Every gesture and word was elegant and refined. In their fleeting exchange of glances, she saw the undisguised possessiveness in his eyes.
Her mind went suddenly blank.
"I hear Shuyi was the belle of Nanda. What a gorgeous figure."
White smoke curled around the man's fingertips. His red lips looked bloodthirsty, and he seemed all the more unsettling.
Shuyi lowered her eyes. Her lashes hid her feelings. Her boyfriend mistook her silence for shyness and pushed her forward against her wishes.
"Yiyi, this is Director Jiang, my buddy."
Zhu Shuyi hesitated for two seconds, then kept her distance and replied in a cool, aloof voice, "Please look after me, Director Jiang."
His tone was teasing as his long, bony fingers clenched. "I certainly will."
Everyone said Zhu Shuyi, the most doted-on daughter of the Zhu family, was the apple of her parents' eyes, with skin as smooth as jade and a sweet, gentle nature. Then Jiang Yanwang, a boy three years older than her, came to live with them. He was strange, gloomy, and taciturn.
Her parents had always looked out for this boy of mysterious origins, but only Shuyi knew what fangs and bloodlust lurked behind that handsome face.
It wasn't until their once-sweet, well-behaved daughter became silent and numb that her parents finally realized something was wrong...
Years later, the boy had built his own kingdom. He had immense power and influence, and no longer hid the gaze he'd once held in check.
The man lowered his head and laughed, his body trembling. "Yiyi, why won't you behave?"
#She was his rose. Even if it was broken, it could only ever belong to him.

--- The Weather Station blurb ---
1. By chance, Xiang Ning and Pei Shuo found themselves connected through work.
Her former schoolmate was now a hugely popular star in the industry, genteel, polite, refined, and aloof. In public, he even called her Ning.
At a private gathering, he once used her to fend off a romantic admirer.
Amid clinking glasses and a heady haze of alcohol, Xiang Ning wrapped an arm around his neck and let herself be bold for once.
When she met his burning gaze, she instinctively tried to retreat, only for him to pin her in place, leaving her nowhere to run.
So this was how thrilling it felt to break the rules.
2. They were worlds apart. Any intimacy between them could only be a passing whim.
No one knew better than Xiang Ning that the gap between them meant their reckless secret affair would eventually fade away.
But her peaceful life was shattered when she ran into an old "acquaintance" on a blind date. Pei Shuo deliberately ruined the whole affair, his eyes dark and turbulent. He had clearly come to steal her away.
Xiang Ning gazed at him silently.
"This isn't appropriate."
"You're always the one who rejects me first."
3. In high school, Xiang Ning fell in love with someone.
He was carefree and laid-back, gentle yet distant, adored by everyone and pursued by countless admirers.
She was just a stranger, sensitive and stubborn, not to mention the unwanted burden of a blended family.
Though they had never crossed paths, they both stopped at the school building.
She remembered only that it was raining hard that day. He casually tilted his umbrella toward her. Seeing her stranded in the rain, he lent it to her so she wouldn't have to go home drenched.
4. Although they went to the same school, they barely ever saw each other.
When Xiang Ning went to return the umbrella, she saw a crowd packed around Class 2 of Grade 12. Someone said the class belle was confessing to the school's heartthrob, and that the two might become a couple before the college entrance exams.
Xiang Ning froze, her gaze fixed on the boy sitting in the last row, tucked away in a corner. She couldn't take another step.
She watched the girl flirt and act cute at his desk.
Her voice was soft and sweet. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming back?"
The handsome boy's foxlike eyes seemed to smile, while the corner of his mouth twitched and his voice stayed lazy.
"Sure."
"I'll tell you, and the senior who watches the gate at No. 4 High School, Dahuang. Should I tell the lady selling soda outside school too? Hm?"
The crowd burst into thunderous laughter. The girl's expression stiffened, and she stamped her foot in frustration before leaving, brushing past Xiang Ning.
Suddenly, a frank gaze fell on her. Xiang Ning barely managed to hide her girlish feelings, now laid bare for all to see. She dropped off the umbrella and ran.
Her secret crush was plunged into darkness for good.
But later, people talked about that famous school romance pairing from back then. Despite the overwhelming buzz, it was shut down in just a few days.
They were such a perfect match, but sadly had little to do with each other.
All that remained was the most famous saying at No. 4 High School: Love is an umbrella that tilts toward you.
