After the Forensic Pathologist Became the Bandit Chief's Wife

After working overtime for three days straight, forensic pathologist Nan Zhi dropped dead and transmigrated into the body of a sickly person in ancient times.

The sickly person had no parents and scraped by with mediocre medical skills. The villagers considered him a bringer of bad luck.

Bandits happened to be running rampant, so the villagers discussed it and, on a dark and stormy night, tied Nan Zhi up and sent him into the mountains to become the chieftain's bride.

The chieftain was nearly sixty and had one foot in the grave. Eight wives weren't enough for him, so he took Nan Zhi as his ninth wife and ordered him to treat his illness.

Nan Zhi had spent more than a decade working in his previous life. He only knew how to examine the dead, not treat the living, and, "as expected," he treated the chieftain to death.

Once the chieftain died, his eight long-suffering wives cried tears of joy. Nan Zhi was getting ready to run away when someone stopped him.

His late husband's only son clung to him and asked in a childish voice, "Ninth Mama, are you leaving me?"

Hu Beifeng hadn't even had a name. His father didn't love him, and anyone could kick him around. Even his name had been given to him by that Ninth Mama called Nan Zhi.

Ninth Mama took him to see corpses and let him play at dissecting chickens, ducks, and geese. He made all kinds of delicious meals for him and read to him every night.

Hu Beifeng thought Ninth Mama was the best person in the world to him. He planned to treat him well once he became a great bandit.

But before he could become a great bandit, Nan Zhi left without a word and disappeared for good.

The late emperor of Great Yan died suddenly. Treacherous ministers took advantage of the chaos to poison the adult princes, and an old palace servant risked his life to send the sickly Third Prince, Lu Nanzhi, to the countryside.

Everyone thought the Third Prince was certain to die, but many years later, he suddenly returned to the palace and became regent.

The treacherous minister from those days resented him for ruining his plans and used trumped-up charges to have the Imperial Guards surround the regent's residence.

Lu Nanzhi thought he was about to die. But then a force of elite Imperial Guards was scattered by a group of men. Their leader had a fierce look in his eyes and wore the clothes of a bandit, like a god of slaughter come down to earth.

Hu Beifeng dismounted and walked toward him step by step. His wolf-like eyes held either deep affection or resentment.

"Ninth Mama," he said softly, "For all these years, I've longed for you so deeply that I couldn't sleep at night. I have you to thank for that."
