Don't Fall for the Band's Lead Singer on a Whim

[Roguish, free-spirited lead singer x gentle, tender doctor]

When she was 27, Lu Huan's best friend got two tickets to a WANDER concert and dragged her along.

What her friend hadn't expected was that Lu Huan, who seemed to have no hobbies at all, could sing every WANDER song. She was clearly a devoted fan.

As WANDER launched their third encore, Lu Huan gazed at the vast venue, packed with people like waves on the sea, and suddenly smiled at her friend.

"Hey, you know what? I went to high school with WANDER's lead singer."

Six years earlier, WANDER had been an underground band nobody had heard of.

Lu Huan was their first fan, their only audience.

One afternoon in their senior year, Lu Huan and Chen Yinghuai stayed behind to clean the classroom.

As Lu Huan bent down to change the trash bag, she suddenly heard Chen Yinghuai call out to her. "Lu Huan, want to hear me sing?"

Back then, Chen Yinghuai was the class darling, admired by the girls, someone who had nothing to do with an invisible person like Lu Huan.

Lu Huan said yes, so he picked up his guitar and sang a song, his voice youthful and shy. The afternoon sun fell on the wooden guitar, and for a moment, she thought she could hear the plants outside the window growing wild.

"Did you like it?" Chen Yinghuai asked when he finished.

Lu Huan nodded.

Chen Yinghuai jumped down from the platform, his voice roguish and casual. "That's the first song our band ever wrote. You're the only one who's heard it, so you're WANDER's very first fan."

That year, Lu Huan and Chen Yinghuai were close. They took the same exam, heard the same school bell, and watched the same sunset.

Now Lu Huan and Chen Yinghuai are far apart. He sings his heart out onstage while she listens quietly below, separated by a sea of people, by mountains and rivers.
