This story takes place before Hong Kong's reunification.
Also known as A Spring Banquet on Hong Kong Island.
At a spring banquet, a cup of green wine, a song, and another.
I make three wishes:
First, may my beloved live to be a hundred.
Second, may my beloved always be healthy.
Third, may we be like swallows beneath the rafters, meeting year after year.
It was Wen Li's second twenty-third birthday on Hong Kong Island. Her birthday wishes, every single one, were for Chen Yuhe, though she never mentioned him.
"Wouldn't you wish for a thousand years?"
"A thousand years is a lie." She had already wished for that the first time.
In her previous life,
In Wen Li's heart, even after the martial arts superstar Chen Yuhe became disabled, he was still the ninth young master of the Chen family, son of Hong Kong Island's richest man, and the most precious diamond in the world. Even if he shattered into a hundred billion pieces and scattered across the night sky, he would become a boundless galaxy.
Wen Li was like a frightened bird, terrified of breaking the treasure she had painstakingly pieced together, one fragment at a time.
She cherished and coaxed him, granting his every wish.
She yielded at every turn to his father's second, third, fourth, and fifth wives, and to that pack of fierce, overbearing half-siblings. She did everything she could to keep the peace, hoping his life would be free of conflict and that he could feel what little family affection there was to be had.
But on her birthday, at the snowy mountain where they had planned to watch Hong Kong's reunification, he still chose to end his life before her eyes in a manner straight out of a movie.
And left behind these final words:
---"It snows in Hong Kong. I never loved you."
Accusing her of loving him all alone.
The world champion in sanda, who had kept her temper in check and acted gentle and accommodating for his sake for a year, finally snapped: "F*** you, Chen Yuhe, you ****, you stupid ****!"
A diamond, was it? A hundred billion pieces? A galaxy? She was supposed to stick them together one by one? She'd kick them all to pieces!
Use them as cat litter! Pave the garden path with them, scatter them over the castle as decorations, throw them into a pond!
A hundred billion in the Antarctic, a hundred billion in the Arctic, and the rest straight into the Atlantic!
If you don't want to be happy, then nobody gets to be happy. :)
So after being driven mad, she gave every member of the Chen family an equal verbal lashing.

Love cannot save a man confined to a wheelchair who has lost the will to live.
Only the deepest, most vicious hatred can endure without end.
And so---
"Chen Yuhe, I hate you."
Those words became the strongest force of resentment in the world, driving the fallen angel, a broken man, to burn through his life just to get close to him.
Later, their story was made into a movie that premiered at the turn of the millennium. It swept across the mainland and both sides of the Taiwan Strait, setting a box-office record and leaving the competition far behind.
Chen Yuhe was no longer the man he used to be.
A reporter asked, "Hello, Mr. Chen. People say the heroine never says 'I love you' in the film. But every time Miss Wen says 'I hate you,' she's really saying 'I love you' and begging you not to abandon her. Do you agree?"
The man on the sofa had every inch the image of a wealthy young gentleman. He folded his hands and gently stroked the wedding ring on his left ring finger. Without evasion, he replied, "She always forgets that I'm disabled."
Everyone was surprised by his candor. His expression was calm, yet tender. "So I forget too."
[Notes] 1. The heroine never says: The heroine never says it in her dialogue.
2. Begging you not to abandon her: Begging you not to leave her.
3. She always forgets that I'm disabled: She always forgets that I'm a disabled person. From the film The Intouchables.
4. So I forget too: So I don't remember either.
[Reader Advisory]

2. The heroine was the women's sanda world champion in the twenty-first century. She transmigrates back to Hong Kong in 1996, so she has been reborn twice.
3. The hero uses a wheelchair at first and will learn to walk again, but he won't be able to run fast.
Theme: An ode to courage.
