Blurb:
Xiao Changying dies and transmigrates into a world where women hold power, becoming a farm girl who must support her family.
The Xiao family’s ancestors made a mistake while serving as officials, and the family was barred from the imperial examinations for three generations. Xiao Changying and her younger sister happen to be the unlucky third generation.
In her original life, she had a verbal engagement with a pretty young man from the same village, but he broke it off. She also had a job copying books at a bookstore in the county town, but she recently lost it.
Her family does have a few acres of land, but Xiao Changying has no talent for farming.
Looking at her hard-working widowed father, her gentle and demure second younger brother, and her spirited, rebellious underage younger sister, Xiao Changying, formerly a domineering CEO, has no choice but to put her billion-yuan brain to work.
Pointing to the family’s last thirteen copper coins and over a hundred jin of potatoes and sweet potatoes, she confidently delivers a team pep talk:
Save a little at a time, and food and clothes will last. Living in poverty is shameful; escaping poverty is glorious. Stand united, and let’s all reach a moderately prosperous life!
Across the lane from the Xiao family lives a family of newcomers named Pei, who often visit to build neighborly ties. Before long, Pei Ning, the Pei family’s son, who smiles with his eyes curved into sweet little moons, often blushes whenever he sees Xiao Changying.
Facing this obedient, beautiful young man with fair skin, a slim waist, long legs, and excellent virtue, the CEO, who has lived two lives, suddenly finds herself wondering why she doesn’t want to be a person anymore.
Strong content warnings. Please be aware and steer clear if you’re uncomfortable with any of the following:
1. An alternate ancient setting with an author-created matriarchal society. Women hold power over men, and men can bear children.
2. The main couple is unequivocally a strong woman and a weak man. The woman works outside the home, and the man manages the household.
3. The story focuses on everyday life. No household intrigue or punishing villains, just the ordinary daily life of a small farming family escaping poverty and getting rich.
4. No historical accuracy. This world is made up by the author, and contains many crops that only came to China during the Ming dynasty or later. Just imagine that this matriarchal world has had contact with the Americas.
5. Apart from men bearing children and women not menstruating, this world is just like ours. Don’t ask how men give birth. The author made it up with her eyes closed, and it’s completely unscientific.
5. The author hasn’t read many matriarchal novels and doesn’t know the rules of that genre’s community. There are lots of author-created settings, so feel free to ask questions, just don’t be mean.
