Every Day Under My Ex-Girlfriend's Thumb

[Changed the cover and title. The original title was: Black Moonlight]

1.

Duan Xia saw Xu Wangshu again at her eldest brother's funeral.

The sky was overcast that day, rain streaming from the eaves. One false, tearful face after another came and went through the mourning hall, all with greed and ambition in their eyes.

Xu Wangshu knelt on the cold ground in white mourning clothes, burning paper offerings. Only a glimpse of her weary eyes could be seen. She looked like a beautiful bird, dying now that its owner was gone.

Duan Xia's trouser legs were soaked. Wrapped in wind and rain, she stared coldly at the pack of wolves ready to tear the Duan family apart and devour it.

Then the person kneeling with her head bowed like a clay statue looked up. Her eyes were red from crying, and she complained hoarsely, "Why did you take so long to come back?"

Duan Xia looked at her in silence. The shock and anger of their reunion tore at her heart, leaving it aching and raw. Yet when she opened her mouth, she said:

"Sister-in-law."

2.

When Duan Xia secretly pursued Xu Wangshu as a young girl, she suffered for it.

Everyone adored Xu Wangshu, their moonlight. Duan Xia was an unruly little brat, useless at school and hard to like.

When she was young, she didn't know what love was. Whenever Xu Wangshu walked past the window with a stack of exam papers, Duan Xia couldn't help sneaking a look from her desk: at her features, at the tiny, faint mole between her brows.

The name Xu Wangshu embodied Duan Xia's boundless, reckless yearning.

3.

Being pursued by someone of the wrong gender is always hard to accept.

Young and hotheaded, Duan Xia realized someone had toyed with her feelings, then abandoned her. Humiliated, she vanished without a trace, wishing she could smash this ridiculous, unrequited love to pieces with sheer youthful bravado.

Back then, she didn't yet know how many more times she would have to suffer like this.

Please note:

1. Xu Wangshu's marriage to Duan Yan was a marriage of convenience, and they were never intimate.

2. The leads reunite and begin a new relationship after Duan Yan's death.
