The High-EQ Immortal

She was born beneath a ginkgo tree.

From the moment she opened her eyes, she knew her mission: to grow close to humans and become their companion.

Two predecessors had once warned her to stay away from humans, or she would come to grief. But she, a ginkgo, was convinced she could manage it, and was determined to help every human she could.

And so the new immortal was immersed in human culture. The next time she saw her two predecessors, she waved away the disciples who were helping massage her shoulders and legs, then excitedly waved to them.

The two demons were both surprised. They had never imagined that their seemingly most useless junior would have lived so long as an immortal and still be so full of life.

"It's been ages since we last met, hasn't it?"

Hmm? Was that way of speaking...?

They fell silent for a moment, holding back their questions, then asked their junior about everything that had happened over the years.

The junior immortal thought it over and said, "I can't say things have been great, but I can't say they've been bad, either. Aside from every child treating me pretty well, everyone else has been good to me, too."

Do you even know what you're saying?

"I did run into a few rotten people, but don't worry, seniors. I've outlived two of them, and I'm sure I'll outlive the rest. It's only a matter of time."

Seeing that their junior was still full of energy, they felt reassured.

After returning, one went back to the mountain and the other to the seaside. As they parted, they both recalled the gentle, pure appearance of their immortal junior a thousand years ago. She had been the cleanest little sapling they had ever seen, the first flower bud to bloom in spring.

But now...

They sighed at the same time and said in unison:

"Stay away from humans, or you'll come to grief."

Theme: It's nothing to worry about. When trouble comes, just smile.
