Life as an NPC in a Game

Blurb One:

To promote traditional culture, a game company has made a splash with a series of full-dive games themed around ghosts and monsters, including Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.

On launch day, players flock to the game in droves, only to find themselves inexplicably witnessing an NPC romance.

Player 1: I've read Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio three hundred times, but I never knew love could be this sweet.

Player 2: I thought she was a player. She's an NPC?

Player 3: These days, even horror games have to ship couples?

Player 4: They're so good together, come on, ship them! The gentle NPC and the fox demon in this scenario are amazing!

An employee on the inside: Hmph. Get this ship shut down.

Blurb Two:

Wu Wen only took a part-time job playing an NPC to kill some time. She never imagined she'd end up in an "office romance."

NPC Wu Wen tells a player: Congratulations, affection +1.

The painting spirit beside her is displeased: Come on, you're coming with me to make the rounds!

NPC Wu Wen hands a player a pendant (a clue).

The bewitching fox demon: Impressive. You've got a new love and forgotten your servant. What a giant womanizer.

NPC Wu Wen points a player toward a path.

A tiny figure hops around furiously: Hmph, what kind of spirit are you? Can't you see I'm here? I can give directions too!

Wu Wen's eventual job title: The NPC players least want to run into.

Wu Wen: Oh, wow. My wife got me fired.
