The Great Qin Scholar

(New novel: My Brother Ying Zheng)

Chen Shenzhi is an oddball. Give him a book and he won't care about anyone else.

He transmigrates to ancient times, during the age of a hundred schools of thought, and thinks he'll get to read all the rarest ancient books. But then he remembers: Qin Shi Huang burned books and buried scholars alive. Need we say more?

"In the final years of Qin, he burned the Classics and buried scholars alive."

During the reign of Qin Shi Huang, strange celestial phenomena appear and a meteor falls. It bears the words, "The First Emperor will die and the land will be divided." From that day on, Chen Shenzhi dreams every night that he's resting on a luxurious imperial bed, transformed into the first emperor of the ages, Qin Shi Huang, who conquered the six kingdoms and united the land!

At dawn the next day, in the Xianyang Palace, a royal physician takes the emperor's pulse. "Your Majesty, you look unwell. Is your chronic headache acting up?"

Qin Shi Huang: "No. Lately I've been plagued by nightmares. Every time I fall asleep, I dream I'm a poor, sickly scholar."

That night, Chen Shenzhi dreams again.

Zhao Gao: "Your Majesty, this is a luminous pearl sent as tribute from the provinces."

Chen Shenzhi, holding a bamboo slip, seems otherworldly and beyond compare. "Books hold houses of gold."

Zhao Gao: "Your Majesty, these are beautiful women selected from the provinces."

Chen Shenzhi remains unmoved, free of all desire. "Books hold beauties like jade."

Zhao Gao: "Your Majesty, this is the latest elixir, refined to prolong your life..."

Chen Shenzhi: "Stop chattering. I'm reading!"

People ask: Who exactly is Chen Shenzhi? Why does His Majesty treasure him like a priceless gem?

Chen Shenzhi: "I am a scholar of Great Qin."
