The Yellow Weasel Immortal's Daily Life in the Eighties

In 2030, a post went viral and topped the trending searches for three days. A traveler in Northern Province asked in shock, “Didn’t we agree that spirits weren’t allowed to reveal themselves after the founding of the country? So how come there’s someone who’s become an immortal?!” Huang Zhenzhen, a blade of foxtail grass in her mouth, sneezed. “Actually, I came down from the mountain because I wanted to retire.” * But the simple, honest folks around her are so eager to repay her kindness that they build her a shrine and even take on the local bully from the neighboring village. Huang Zhenzhen has no choice but to make a grand move. She goes to the neighboring village and hangs herself from the old locust tree at the entrance. Next comes the weasel’s apparent suicide, the villagers’ horror, and her escape by faking her death. Just as she expected, the troublemakers who kept harassing her go quiet. The neighboring villagers escape danger and a string of deaths, and are now compelled to repay her life-saving favor. She moves into the Yellow Immortal Temple as a matter of course. Who says she isn’t living there just because she was buried after holding her breath and pretending to be dead? Now all she needs is a spirit-medium disciple to cook for her and wait on her hand and foot... Ahem, scratch that, to make offerings to her. Later, she lives at her leisure, occasionally resolving little troubles for the people and animals nearby. When she finally looks back, she realizes she has completed the supposedly impossible task and become the Yellow Immortal. * Jiang Xuanguang has been reborn. He is poor and struggling, surrounded by hooligans causing trouble, village bullies throwing their weight around, and criminal gangs with unchecked power. After thinking it over, he tucks away his folding knife and climbs the wall into the dilapidated Yellow Immortal Temple. [This is probably the story of an ordinary weasel who became an immortal after doing a few extra good deeds.] Theme: Respect life, strive for self-improvement, fight through adversity, and never give up on yourself.
