The Funeral Parlor

Work has been keeping me busy lately, so I can't say when updates will resume. Thank you for waiting. This story will not be paywalled, and the update schedule is still undecided.

[An icy, celibate, mature female exorcist x a brave puppy-like girl]

Funeral customs, also known as "ominous rites" or "white affairs," have been handled in Haicheng for hundreds of years by the White Affairs Association, formed by the city's five great Daoist clans. Its duties include conducting funeral rites, guiding souls, and protecting homes.

To reclaim her mother's ashes and pay off her debts, Long Ming, an illegitimate daughter, has no choice but to accept her father's terms. She takes the place of the eldest Zhou daughter and joins the White Affairs Association as its new "soul guide."

They say President Shen of the White Affairs Association is moody and impossible to get along with. Perhaps it's because she's dealt with too many ghosts: she always seems to radiate an eerie chill that makes people shudder.

Looking at the woman before her, with eyes like ink wash and brows like distant hills, Long Ming was a little confused. She was cold, sure, but she was undeniably beautiful.

Long Ming, the brave, fearless-of-ghosts puppy, now embarks on a long journey of trying her best to get closer to her beautiful older sister.

[A ghostly shadow appears, striking an attack pose]

Long Xiaoming: ...President, with me here, you don't have to be scared.

Shen Qingci: Mm. That would sound more convincing if you let go of my hand first.
