Empress: Female Eunuch

The emperor's wedding brought joy to the entire palace.

The bedchamber was warm beneath its hibiscus curtains, yet the bed stood empty.

Empress Song Mingxi was missing...

When Shen Ye, the Eastern Palace's chief seal-bearer, heard the news, she added a fragrant pill to the enamel incense burner...

After bathing and burning incense, she carefully combed her sleek black hair again and again, until at last she heard a sound she hadn't heard in ages.

The door was knocked upon. The young woman wore a bright red phoenix robe, soaked through. The droplets on her face could have been rain or tears.

“Does what you said last time still stand, Chief Seal-Bearer?”

You help me undress and warm my bed, and I'll be the sharpest blade in your hand.

Shen Ye was the name she had chosen for herself anew.

Her name was like poison on the tongue. Everyone who heard it ground their teeth, some even cursing her as a “dead eunuch.”

This was a woman like a vengeful ghost, yet only when facing the empress would she ever lower herself.

A vengeful ghost in the eyes of all, she was nevertheless willing to be the dust beneath the empress's feet.
