The Book's Quadratic Equation

The Book, once separated from the Special Ability Division, took the name Xinglong and put on the persona of an ordinary person with no special abilities.

As soon as he came of age, he made a good friend: Arahabaki Chuuya. Later, he even found an unlucky stone tablet and brought it home: the Dresden Slate.

Although Xinglong is a walking bug in the human world, he has always behaved himself and disguised himself as an ordinary human to experience the joys of being a person.

The classic "I have a golden finger, but I don't use it."

Skills unlocked: Presentable in public; capable in the kitchen; able to make money; able to beat people up; a mouth that can eat and talk back.

He kept up the act for many, many years. But people stumble and horses trip, and living in Yokohama was bound to bring unexpected trouble, even for a bug.

Ways he dealt with some of these incidents:

1. When [Midwife] Rimbaud wanted to kill Chuuya, he turned Rimbaud into a cat and took him home to raise.

2. When [Blockhead] Verlaine wanted to kill him and take [Chuuya] away, he used the old method to deal with that French artificial blockhead.

3. When [Straight Shooter] Shibusawa Tatsuhiko held a grudge and wanted to kill him, he struck first and buried him.

4. When [Humanoid AI] Mori Ougai wanted to kick out [No Longer Human] Dazai Osamu, he helped Dazai successfully seize power. (To repay a favor, and because he couldn't stand Mori Ougai.)

5. When [Scoundrel] Gide, leader of Mimic, fought Chuuya, he attacked him from behind.

6. When the [Unlucky Slate] called for help, he transmigrated between worlds to save the Dresden Slate, which was cowering beneath the Sword of Damocles.

After all those incidents, a certain master of schemes started causing trouble again, only to have his identity exposed. And the reason he was exposed was his own fault.

The [Big Boy] created by the Book's [Pages], Sigma (shouting in surprise): Father!!!

The [Book] [True Form], Xinglong (losing all reason): Who the hell is your dad!!!

Afterward: the Hunting Dogs and the Special Ability Division were demolished; the Decay of the Angel were locked up for life; Natsume Soseki was exposed in public and left to clean up the mess...

Author's settings:

1. The Book = Xinglong, a personification of special abilities who twists rules and overturns facts. He has an incredibly powerful wish-granting cheat (usually he doesn't use it, unless he's trying to set someone up).

2. The protagonist isn't human. His act of disguising himself as an ordinary person with no special abilities is driven entirely by curiosity. His thoughts and behavior can sometimes be unusual, and he has a chaotic neutral alignment.

3. The origin of ability users: The Book. Many, many years ago, something someone wrote changed the world, and ability users came into existence.

4. The separated Pages of the Book possess the Book's power to make things real.
