A week before winter break, Su An's landlord confessed his feelings for him. His words were heartfelt, his eyes full of affection, and Su An wanted nothing more than to dig himself a two-bedroom apartment right there on the spot.

To put an end to the landlord's hopes, Su An took his little niece and made a decisive escape.

He had found his new place in a hurry. His new landlord and roommate, Zhou Yubie, was tall and intimidating. When he wore a cold expression, Su An always felt as if he might fly into a rage the very next second.

Strangely, though, his little niece really liked the landlord.

One day, while Su An wasn't paying attention, his little niece slipped away on her own.

Su An hurried off to look for her, and finally spotted her with Zhou Yubie at the entrance to the residential complex.

Zhou Yubie was crouched in front of the little girl, looking very serious.

Her eyes were brimming with tears. She pouted, wanting to cry but not daring to.

Su An's heart gave a thump, and he immediately ran over.

He saw Zhou Yubie hold out two fingers and say earnestly, "Hold those tears back and I'll buy you two lollipops. I won't tell your uncle, either. Let's keep it our secret, okay?"

The little girl wiped her tears and clasped Zhou Yubie's fingers, her tiny voice trembling as she said, "Okay."

The One Who Also Has a Name

In novels, there is a kind of person who exists solely to set off the protagonist.

To support the protagonist's growth arc, he has to embody every kind of awfulness. When the protagonist shines, he curries favor and flatters them; when they fall on hard times, he takes the opportunity to kick them while they're down. Once the protagonist finally succeeds, he can make his exit.

Fu Jue has been the book's villainous male supporting character for three years. Making things difficult for the protagonist comes naturally to him.

The upside is that in the book, he is handsome and rich, and he can spend all he wants during the time outside the plot. No matter how much he spends, he can't use it all up.

The downside is that the author is too lazy to come up with names. The villainous male supporting characters in every book they write are all him. Because of bugs, he often gets dropped into the wrong story, which means that outside the plot, nobody remembers him. The sentence he hears most often is:

"Aren't you that guy?"

Fu Jue is used to it. He eats when it's time to eat and drinks when it's time to drink, never letting anything bother him.

Until one day, he was eating rice noodles at a new restaurant when a man sat down across from him.

"Fu Jue, are the rice noodles good?"

Fu Jue nearly choked to death on a mouthful of noodles.

He stared at the man for a few seconds, then pushed his bowl of noodles to the middle of the table. "Try some."
