During the first week of high school, Xi Cheng joined the wrong club.
The robotics club had mountains of homework, gave out few points, and had a tiny activity budget. Its only redeeming feature was one handsome student:
Tao Yusi from the club. Even wearing safety goggles while testing sensors, he looked as handsome as a long take in a movie. The club president used him as a mascot to lure in younger girls.
There was just one problem: this student was aloof and haughty, never cracked a smile, and was incredibly hard to pursue.
Xi Cheng’s friends advised her that rather than trying to melt an iceberg, she should focus on her studies.
Xi Cheng didn’t take it to heart. “I’m just going to pursue him for fun.”
Before bed, Xi Cheng checked her Moments and discovered that Tao Yusi had, for once, posted an update:
“Ask me anything! Send me your questions!”
Xi Cheng thought for a moment, tapped on it, and slowly typed: Student Tao, can you play the guitar? If not, how did you pluck my heartstrings?

Tao Yusi noticed that Xi Cheng had recently started going out of her way to avoid him.
At their usual weekend group meeting, they finally finished revising the plan for the automation stage. Holding her shattered heart, Xi Cheng hinted tactfully, “Student Tao, we shouldn’t be so flirtatious. I know you’re popular, but you shouldn’t sweet-talk every girl in your question box and discuss life with them. It’s not right.”
Tao Yusi: “Every girl?”
He found the post and opened the audience settings.
There was exactly one profile picture in the audience list, and it looked very familiar.
It was Xi Cheng’s own profile picture.
Xi Cheng braced herself against the wall. “Wait, I need a moment. I’m a little short of breath.”

Tao Yusi didn’t give her time to catch her breath. He opened the questions in the box and picked one at random: “I miss you, boohoo.”
Xi Cheng: ?
Tao Yusi read the next one: “Student Tao, what’s your ideal type?”
Xi Cheng: I was the flirt. I was wrong.
Tao Yusi scrolled to the next one: “Little Tao, after looking you over, I’ve decided your only flaw is that you’re missing me.”
Xi Cheng said, “Tao Yusi, stop reading. I’m begging you.”
Tao Yusi said, “Student Tao, how are you so handsome? My drool is like Niagara Falls, cascading down three thousand feet. Pick an auspicious day next week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, and I’ll confess to you.”
Xi Cheng: ...
Tao Yusi put his phone back in his pocket and imitated her tone. “Student Xi, I’ve waited from Monday to Friday, and it’s Saturday already. Where are you?”
