Before the Downpour

The classroom was stifling after the power went out. Dark clouds before the storm pressed the sky beyond the corridor low and black. Qi Yao gripped his girlfriend's hand and, amid her ragged breathing, leaned in to kiss her in the darkness.

When the lights came on, the person before him turned his face away. A faint red mark from the kiss showed at the corner of his lips.

That was the first time Qi Yao kissed the wrong person.

After drinking at the university celebration banquet, Qi Yao blacked out, thrashing and drifting in the tide like a fish with a broken fin.

He woke with swollen eyelids to find his nemesis lying in bed. Their bare shoulders and back, as well as their waist, were marked with bruises from biting.

That was the first time Qi Yao slept with the wrong person.
