Raising Demons

[Pre-release for the Ghosts and Gods series: Sword Bone, launching in 2025]

The snowy mountain in Lingzhou split open. The founding matriarch of the Lingzhou Immortal Sect had once been buried inside, and when the sect leader sent people to repair her tomb, they were horrified to discover that the matriarch had risen from the dead!

Luo Yin failed her tribulation and was struck unconscious by heavenly lightning. When she woke, five hundred years had passed.

She had cultivated immortality from childhood, never even eating a bite of meat in her quest to become an immortal. In the end, all she got for her trouble was five hundred years of sleep.

Luo Yin had seen the light. Becoming an immortal? To hell with that!

She wanted to travel the mountains, eat, drink, and enjoy herself. She would buy a sturdy, comfortable carriage, raise a sweet, well-behaved dog, and live freely and happily!

Where did the dog come from, you ask?

Oh, she picked him up on the road when she left the mountain. He was white, round, and adorable, and he loved biting her shoulder with his little baby teeth.

What? You say he’s not a dog, but a demon?

Nonsense!

Does Luo Yin look blind to you? Can’t she tell a dog from a demon?

The demon clan came knocking on Xie Yuchuan’s door, claiming he was the demon wolf king, grievously injured and amnesiac, and asking him to return and unite the demon clan to conquer the human world.

At the time, Xie Yuchuan was holding up a candied hawthorn skewer. “You’ve got the wrong person. I’m a dog, not a wolf.”

The demons cried, “Your Highness! Get a grip!”

Xie Yuchuan replied, “I don’t care. If Sister says I’m a dog, then I’m a dog!”

But it seemed he really was the demon wolf king. Sister wouldn’t let him hug or kiss her anymore, and even the way she looked at him had changed.

Sister was invited back to the Lingzhou Immortal Sect, and she didn’t take him with her.

Sister didn’t want him. He’d been abandoned.

He would capture Sister and bring her back, chaining her to his side.

He would make her obey him and look only at him. She would never escape his grasp for the rest of her life!
