When Ying Chiran first arrived in the big city, he had only three hundred yuan in his pocket. He was a dirt-poor country bumpkin.
But he was never self-conscious. He always believed that education could change his fate, and that a country chicken could become a phoenix.
By a stroke of luck, he saved a drowning alpha. His textbook-perfect first aid earned him a job offer from the medical department of a military academy.
His duties were to assist the doctors and occasionally bandage the wounds of military academy students injured during training.
An opportunity for promotion soon came along. The academy's few top-tier alphas had returned to campus.
Ying Chiran was recommended for a job as their private doctor, at the exclusive detached villa reserved for the young masters.
The young masters were aloof and had terrible tempers, but they had money. If he worked hard to get along with them, wouldn't he be set for life?
Unfortunately, Ying Chiran was a bookish nerd who believed studying was more important than life itself. He was bound to let this windfall slip through his fingers.
The night his friend went to visit Ying Chiran, he was folding clothes for one of the young masters.
His friend was so furious that smoke practically poured from his ears. "You went there to work, not to be their servant!"
Ying Chiran hugged his newly acquired collector's edition exam papers and said nothing.
Later, the two of them went out to eat. They had barely taken a couple of bites when Ying Chiran's phone started pinging. His friend glanced over and saw an obscene message pop up: "You slutty wife, I miss you. The bed you sat on yesterday still reeks of your wantonness. I can't bear to wash it."
His friend: What?!?!
Facing his friend's combative expression, a trace of longing appeared in Ying Chiran's eyes. He explained good-naturedly, "It's just a nickname. Once he's had his fun calling me that, he'll let me sit in on Professor Chen's lecture for free."
His friend: ...No, surely this isn't just about a nickname?
But that wasn't the main event.
The main event happened on a rainy night. Passing by the military district office, his friend saw Ying Chiran held in the arms of one of the young masters, who was hugging him close. Beneath the hem of Ying Chiran's clothes, there was a bulge.
A bulge. A real bulge.
His friend exploded. "Are you stupid? His hand is inside your clothes and you're not resisting? That's assault!"
Ying Chiran tilted his head. "But he said he could get me the physics department's top student's revision notes."
His expression said, But those are the top student's notes!
His friend: "You're hopeless!"
Qin Liao was a reporter for the Philos TV station, and a prized son of the same county Ying Chiran came from.
They'd been childhood friends and were very close. Their parents had even arranged a childhood betrothal for them.
That day, Qin Liao was assigned to interview the people at the detached villa. Thinking he was about to see his longtime crush, he was so happy he didn't know what to do with himself.
But the moment he stepped through the door, his smile froze.
The camera wobbled. The alphas in the villa lounged around: one was taking off his clothes, another had his legs crossed while looking at his phone, and someone else was drinking water. Without exception, they all had appallingly sour expressions.
Qin Liao stiffly carried the camera down the hall.
He looked up and saw a tall, muscular figure, apparently enjoying a pleasure so intense it could make his soul leave his body. Even his Achilles tendons were taut. His hands were kneading someone's back with all their strength, making the pair of long, slender legs wrapped around his waist tremble.
The alpha was shielding the person so completely that Qin Liao had to look very carefully to catch a glimpse of a strikingly beautiful face peeking out over his shoulder.
One glance was enough to plunge him into an icy abyss.
After a long while, Ying Chiran slid limply from the man's arms. His face was flushed, and his expression showed he was struggling to catch his breath. But when he felt the out-of-print workbook in his hands, the corners of his lips lifted again.
He brushed the dust off the cover and had just stood up when he saw Qin Liao. He blinked in confusion.
"Huh? What are you doing here?"

If you want to tempt a bookworm, designer brands, haute couture, cars, and watches won't work. But just hold out a workbook that claims to be out of print, beckon him over, and he'll come right to you.
