I Heard My Dead Moonlight Is Alive Again

[Blurb]

While appearing on a talk show, the host asked Hao Xiangsi, "Where is the boy who was your first love when you were young now?"

Hao Xiangsi paused, then smiled and said, "He confessed to me, but I turned him down. In a fit of anger, we went our separate ways."

The host asked, "You really haven't been in touch all these years?"

"No."

"Aren't you curious whether he still likes you?"

"...Not curious."

She was lying when she said she wasn't curious.

After she got home, Hao Xiangsi worked up the courage to type the name she'd kept buried in her heart for ten years into a search engine for the very first time.

His life had unfolded just as she'd imagined: he went to the best university in the country, then earned his master's and doctorate, and eventually joined the best medical research institute in Kyoto.

And then...

An influenza outbreak swept the country. He joined a rescue team and went to Hao Xiangsi's city as one of the first medical workers sent to help.

Working on the front lines, he became infected while saving a patient and died despite treatment.

Hao Xiangsi's hand trembled on the mouse for a long while. At daybreak, with her hair a mess and her eyes swollen from crying, she packed a bag and boarded a train to pay her respects to him.

They have feelings for each other.

The streaming and research institute details in this story are entirely fictional.

The opening is a little sad, but once the misunderstanding is cleared up, the tone becomes lighthearted.

Theme: Be confident in life. Don't feel inferior to yourself.
