My Noble Consort Is Quick-Witted and Eloquent

[Story Blurb]

When my grandfather was still Emperor, there was a censor in the court whom he hated.

The kind of official who would bang his head against a pillar and die in protest at the drop of a hat.

My imperial grandfather was afraid the court historians would write that he was a tyrant who forced his ministers to their deaths, so he kept putting up with him.

To get revenge on my grandfather's behalf, I secretly went after the censor time and again.

But by the time I ascended the throne, the man had not only survived without hitting his head against a pillar, he'd become a minister of three reigns.

I'm not as merciful as my grandfather or father. He wanted to bang his head against a pillar and die in protest, so he could make a name for himself in the history books? I'd grant his wish.

I not only refused to have anyone hold him back, I urged him to hurry up and do it.

When he realized I wouldn't fall for that, the censor came up with another idea.

He sent his daughter to the palace to be my concubine.

I was terribly curious what kind of daughter a man like him would raise.

That very night, I went to her palace.

To my surprise, the daughter of a censor famous for his eloquence was a stutterer.

It was the greatest joke in the world.

From then on, whenever he angered me in court, I'd go to the harem and mock his daughter.

Like father, like daughter. Stubbornness ran in the family.

My little concubine practiced every day, facing a wall. She wore her tongue raw but never gave up, and in the end she really did stop stuttering.

What's more, she became increasingly eloquent. Whenever she saw an injustice, she wanted to speak up and argue about it.

She was exactly like her detestable father.

She talked so much my ears rang, and I couldn't sleep at night.

I wanted to send her to the Cold Palace, as far away from me as possible.

But by then she had already become an Imperial Consort, and with no empress in the harem, she was the one in charge.

More importantly, I'd personally issued the decree promoting her.

If I stripped her of her title, wouldn't I be slapping myself in the face?

Sigh. What a dilemma.
