Yu Yuan woke up to find she had transmigrated into a male-lead-centered cultivation novel about rising to the top. She had become a tragic spirit beast who helped the male lead hunt for treasures early on, then took a blade for the female lead later.
Luckily, she had arrived early. At this point, she was still a fluffy little cub. The male lead had taken a liking to her, but failed to tame and form a contract with her, so he had simply trapped her and tried to force her to acknowledge him as her master.
Yu Yuan: Sorry, I'm heading out first.
Using her wits to exploit a loophole, she dug a tunnel and escaped. Along the way, she accidentally burrowed into a temple on a barren mountain, where she found a human who was on the verge of death.
His breathing was faint, and black energy swirled around him. He looked like he was dying.
Yu Yuan crawled into his arms and nuzzled him. He opened his eyes slightly, his gaze indifferent.
She gave two caring meows.
Meow, meow, meow. You okay, human? Want to escape together?
After Yu Yuan's frantic efforts to save him, she somehow managed to bring him back to life.
And so Yu Yuan gained a cold-faced human who was utterly devoted to cats. From then on, someone fed her and kept her company while she slept. The handsome human she'd chosen was a little aloof, but he was good-looking, had a lovely voice, and diligently brushed her fur several times every day.
The only thing was, he kept a rather close eye on her.
After running all over with her human in tow, Yu Yuan finally noticed something was off.
Wait.
Was the human she'd been raising actually the same person as the gloomy, obsessive villain who imprisoned the male and female leads for a hundred years in the novel?

Ji Wuwang had been born steeped in baleful energy, a natural demonic calamity. His fate as a lone star had made him an outcast. He cultivated the Dao through his heart, but someone sabotaged him during his trial of inner demons, sending him plummeting into an abyss of eternal ruin.
As he lay dying, a ball of fluff nuzzled him awake.
He had once hated his ability to understand the speech of beasts. It was proof that his bloodline was impure.
Yet in the darkness, a soft white kitten curled up beside his neck and whispered to him:
"Don't be scared. Humans don't eat much. I'll take care of you from now on."
From then on, the sword in his hand was meant for one person alone.
