The Villain Should Be the One Protecting Me

Pei Shu transmigrates into an old-school angst novel with herself as the heroine.

The story is about a heroine who marries for an alliance, meets her true love, and insists on divorcing her husband to be with an ugly man who has been married before and has three children, only to discover that he has another true love hidden away. After ninety-nine rounds of anguished romance with him, the story ultimately ends happily.

At this point, the plot has reached the part where the heroine is starving herself and hurting herself, insisting on getting a divorce so she can marry her true love, the ugly man.

Pei Shu is so hungry she nearly faints, and so angry she could die. Her vision goes black. When she looks up, she sees a red life bar above her head with only one percent remaining.

Her marriage-alliance match, her husband Tantai Shen, whom she has seen only once in the three days since their wedding, arrives after she makes a scene.

His handsome face is dark with anger and menace.

Tantai Shen presses his thin lips together and looks at her coldly:

"Since you hate this marriage so much, then I'll grant you..."

In the book, Tantai Shen is a villain who dies young. Cold and gloomy, he has no heart for love, and is fiercely possessive of anything he considers his. Deep down, he is nothing but a lunatic.

He agreed to the marriage alliance only to fulfill a promise to his late mother.

Pei Shu is so hungry her vision blurs. She accidentally falls into Tantai Shen's arms and suddenly notices that her life bar has turned green. A line of small text appears beneath it:

"Villain Protection Rule: After contact, life enters a green protection period and will not decrease."

Help, help, help, somebody save her! Seeing the man about to leave, Pei Shu clutches his clothes and refuses to let go. Pretending to have amnesia, she starts crying first.

She sniffles and turns the blame back on him:

"Sob, sob, why did you take so long to come? I missed you so much."

Tantai Shen freezes: ?

Pei Shu is a crybaby and a pampered girl. She had planned to put staying alive first and just play along with the arranged marriage, muddling through for now.

But she plays her role too well.

Gradually, Tantai Shen starts looking at her differently.

Oh no, she may have taken things too far by accident.
