#What Do You Do When You Discover You're the Wicked Second Female Lead in a Fairy Tale?#
When Lucia was little, she would look at fairy-tale books and politely ask her mother before bed, "What kind of princess should Lucia be?"
Her mother would answer, "Sincere, upright, kind, and brave."
More than a decade later,
Lucia had grown into the least likable kind of person:
Spoiled and arrogant, her bad temper nurtured by her lofty crown. Her nickname was Rose, all because of one line:
"A blooming rose is always surrounded by thorns."
On the stormy night before her eighteenth-birthday ball, Lucia had a nightmare.
In the dream, the whole world was just a fairy-tale book. The story began at a ball held after the rain, where Cinderella, the princess who had mysteriously disappeared from the kingdom more than a decade ago, was reunited with her family. She pushed open the heavy palace doors,
all the lights in the ballroom turned toward her,
and the story began.
Cinderella was the heroine of the fairy tale. She was kind and innocent, with eyes full of helplessness and vulnerability. Every man who met Cinderella fell hopelessly in love with her. They all praised her in unison:
"Lucia may be beautiful, but your purity draws even more attention."
Lucia was the wicked villainess in the story. She did nothing but bad deeds, and in the end she failed to protect the kingdom, becoming an evil old witch. Cinderella married the prince of the neighboring kingdom and lived happily ever after.
When Lucia woke up, she ordered all her fairy-tale books thrown away.
She was furious.
There was another secret in the dream:
Cinderella actually didn't like the prince. She had secretly fallen for a poor-born knight. And that knight...
had been in love with her all along?!
Aiville was a knight. He was steadfastly upright and kind, praised as "the golden sunshine that protects the kingdom."
He had a secret no one knew:
Aiville was in love with the bad-tempered little princess who was far beyond his reach.
Later,
it seemed she found out.
