A Letter Back in Summer

Fang Han was born in Jiangnan. Her features were soft and gentle, but she had a frail, sickly body. Life was so dull that all she did was study and seek treatment. That was until her first year of high school, when she fell in love with someone. Jiang Yiran was carefree and wild, doing whatever he pleased. He was the brightest presence on campus. The one piece of luck Fang Han had was becoming his desk mate. But when she finally worked up the courage to offer him a piece of chocolate, he coldly knocked it away. "Don't bother me." The boy looked up, his eyes and brows sharp and cold. Fang Han crouched in a corner, clutching her confession letter, the tip of her nose stinging. In the end, she never managed to give him the only love letter she wrote in her youth. - But later, Jiang Yiran dreamed of the girl. Her little face was deathly pale as she hid in a corner, crying until her ears turned red. She looked so pitiful. The next day, he brought a whole box of chocolates, only to find that she was absent. The next time he heard news of Fang Han was when he ran into her older sister. She handed him a letter. "Fang Han wrote this for you." The night was dry and still. On the graceful handwriting were tear stains, damp once and now dried. Back then, neither of them imagined they would meet again. Years later, one summer day, the breeze carried the scent of camphor leaves through the window. In a tiny flower shop on a street corner, the once-defiant boy gently pinned her in place, his voice at her ear pleading and hoarse. "So, give me one more chance." This summer's evening breeze brings back echoes of a long, secret crush that began at seventeen. The love letter the girl sent in winter finally receives a reply in the summer, seven years later.
