1. The first time Lin Yusheng met Pei Zhi, she was wearing a new little black dress from D, with exquisite diamond-studded heels on her feet. Pei Zhi was repairing a sports car with pliers in hand. Black motor oil had stained his cheap work clothes, and a cigarette rested between his lips. He didn't even look Lin Yusheng in the eye.

The eldest Miss Lin was fretting over how to get out of the blind dates her family had arranged, so she started pursuing Pei Zhi, half seriously and half in jest.

“Say the word and I'll get you a sports car of equal value. How about it?”

Pei Zhi sat on the sofa without even raising his head. “Not interested.”

She leaned closer, the soft hem of her dress brushing his ankle. “Why are you afraid to look at me?”

Pei Zhi stubbed out his cigarette and gave her a half-smile. “Try flirting with me again and see what happens.”

2. She had only meant to have a relationship she could end whenever she wanted, but things gradually spiraled out of control.

Afraid of falling too deeply, Lin Yusheng decided to call it quits before it was too late.

Then she discovered that Pei Zhi wasn't a mechanic. He just loved racing.

One night, she hears a noise in the house while she's asleep. Startled, she thinks the policewoman must be back, so she sleepily gets up to say hello.

She freezes at the doorway. In the dim light of the wall lamp, the figure is unmistakably a man. They face off in the dark. Jiang Ning turns and hurries back to her room, trembling as she dials the number she has never called before.

A phone rings in the living room. Jiang Ning freezes. Then she calls out, “Sis...”

Lu Zhixing turns on the light and sees a young woman in bear pajamas, her hair sticking up in every direction.

He smiles. “Who are you calling ‘sis’?”

His voice is low and a little cool. He is clearly a man.

Lu Zhixing gently takes her hand. “Don't look. Have someone else dress the wound.”

The squad member accompanying him stares in disbelief. Later, he quietly asks, “Captain Lu, who is that girl?”

Lu Zhixing replies, “She's my kid.”
