Especially himself.
To achieve the ultimate NE of guarding Yokohama in pursuit of a certain perfect ending, Mori Ogai has no choice but to reload and start over endlessly. He has to achieve survival, and no matter how many times he starts again, he must fulfill the conditions for his sacrifice while discovering at the earliest possible moment that his partner is dead.
Though he can still feel pain and cannot block it out, Mr. Mori doesn't care. Today, too, he takes another step toward his goal.
He still wants to ask: Why do they always have to die before me in every world?
Undoing a bad ending means Mori Ogai's death. Mr. Mori is always a few minutes too late. A good starting point should lead to a happy ending, but his starting point is random and unpredictable. His one advantage is that he can start over, trading blood and death for a chance to turn things around.
And so...
After receiving the news that Oda and Gide had died together, Mori Ogai knocks over the gasoline, lights the report with a lighter, and sets the Mafia building's boss's office ablaze. Mr. Mori burns himself alive, and the crimson flames set Yokohama's night aglow.
As the boss Dazai Osamu leaps from the building, he also sees Mori Ogai, thousands of miles away, tilting his head with a smile as he points a gun at his own temple and casually pulls the trigger. Beneath the orphanage's great tree, a new sprout pushes through the soil.
Later, after Mori Ogai returns to his own world, everyone who has learned the truth surrounds him.
The original characters, their memories restored:
"Mr. Mori in their world is asleep forever."
But he is still here, in this world.
