Hu Lu is a beta, timid and insecure, and he spends most of his time hidden in the corner of the classroom.

But he has a crush on an alpha whose pheromones are rated S+, and who has countless admirers.

He knows that someone like him, an ordinary beta, could never catch the alpha's eye.

He keeps his feelings hidden in his heart, alongside another secret.

A beta's glands have atrophied. Even if they smell pheromones, they won't be induced into heat.

So they'll never know what it feels like to be bitten and marked.

But Hu Lu is nearly obsessed with longing for that experience. He fantasizes about the faint sting, and has dreamed of Fu Jue more times than he can count.

He sinks deeper and deeper into those shameful, unspeakable dreams.

He wants Fu Jue to bite him.

Fu Jue wears a world-weary expression and can't stand anyone.

Life is as tasteless as plain water to him, until the day an accident happens.

In the final second before losing consciousness, countless images flash before his eyes: the boy sneaking glances at him as they pass, writing the name Fu Jue over and over in his notebook, and sobbing uncontrollably after hearing that something had happened to him.

The final scene is his funeral. Not one of the people who used to fawn over him showed up. Only that person quietly left a paper boat at his gravestone.

Hu Lu doesn't know what went wrong, but one day Fu Jue suddenly transfers into the liberal arts class and insists on sitting next to him.

Hu Lu feels like his illness has gotten worse.

Later, Fu Jue's rut hits without warning, and Hu Lu is the only beta around.

Hu Lu suddenly has a selfish thought: If I let him bite me now, he probably wouldn't refuse.

Just once. Once is all.

Let him fulfill this despicable dream.

The little beta opens his collar, baring his pale, slender neck to the alpha on the verge of losing control. His voice trembles.

"Y-you can bite me."

What Hu Lu doesn't know is that an alpha can't mark a beta he loves, so the only way to relieve their desire is to keep biting the beta's atrophied glands, again and again.

It makes them restless, but it excites them, too.

In the end, Hu Lu can't take any more and goes limp in Fu Jue's arms. Unable to bear hurting him, Fu Jue finally releases him.

The little beta squirms restlessly in his arms and whispers, "Fu Jue, can you... bite me one more time?"

The alpha's breathing immediately grows heavy. He gives the little beta's slender waist a warning pinch, his eyes filled with desire, stirred awake and bottomless.

"Little Gourd, don't tempt me."

Or I'll drag you down into the abyss with me.
