An immortal strokes my head, and we tie our hair together to share eternal life.
Li Bai gave his whole life to the Tang Dynasty, yet never managed to fulfill his wish to "finish the deed, brush off his sleeves, and hide his name and fame." He died trying to grasp the moon in the water.
When he awoke from a dream, he found himself in the Warring States period, where he met the man hailed as the First Emperor of All Time: Ying Zheng.
Ying Zheng granted him his heart's desire, letting him distinguish himself and earn a noble title across the land.
But what is wrong with this First Emperor? Why is he being so good to me?
Ying Zheng: "Are you dissatisfied with this Stargazing Palace I built, Immortal?"
Beneath the cold moonlight, Li Bai sneered. "Are you trying to imitate King Zhou of Shang and build a Deer Terrace for Daji to keep me here? Too bad for you, you're a foolish tyrant, and I'm no bewitching fox spirit!"
*
The first time Ying Zheng saw Li Bai, he felt as if he knew him.
A white robe, a long sword: the sight unsettled him.
Somehow, three words surfaced in his heart: Immortal Exiled from Heaven.
The immortal donned his armor for him. The immortal plotted to win the realm for him.
*
To keep Li Bai by his side, Ying Zheng sought out merfolk silk and built the Stargazing Palace.
Even after his merits were complete and he regained the soul of the Ancestral Dragon, he refused to ascend to the heavens and become the Dragon God Emperor. Instead, he insisted on staying in the mortal world, waiting for his immortal to be reborn.
Zhuang Zhou: "Li Bai has a tribulation written into his fate, but in the end, he must return to Heaven."
Ying Zheng: "If I am immortal and imperishable, then what does it matter if I stay in the mortal world to watch over my immortal for a thousand years, or ten thousand?"
*
Ying Zheng: "The immortal has written countless poems. Is there even one about me?"
Li Bai: "The King of Qin swept across the Six States, his might unmatched. His sword slashed through the clouds, and the feudal lords all came west."
Later, Ying Zheng finally read the entire poem.
Ying Zheng: "Heh... You're quite skilled at putting someone down after building them up, Immortal."
Li Bai: "..." Help, my back won't survive this.
