She Shines Like the Sun [1950s]

In the autumn of 1950, Lu Baozhu graduated from teacher's college and signed up to teach in a remote area. She had no choice but to share a home with her colleague, Xu Yan.

At first, Lu Baozhu thought this was the first time she'd met Xu Yan.

Who would have guessed he was a fellow villager whose engagement she had once broken off?

At first, Xu Yan thought Lu Baozhu was still the pampered young lady who had never lifted a finger around the house.

Who would have guessed she was determined to stay in the village and teach, earning his admiration?

What should have been a case of enemies meeting on a narrow road became a socialist romance?

One day, Xu Yan asked with a smile, "May I take a photo with you?"

"Photographs are expensive. Just this once." The corners of Lu Baozhu's lips lifted despite herself, and she looked just like the pampered young lady she'd been back then.

[She is like the sun, born to shine.]
