(Main story complete) The Princess's Story
In her previous life, Xiao Qingluan was the most dazzling and radiant person in the whole Great Sheng. On the day the exam results were posted, she even snatched the top candidate, Qi Lu, and made him her consort.
After a lifetime of entanglement and heartbreak, she finally understood: ruining someone else's match would never end well.
In this life, she plans to prepare a generous wedding gift for them and quietly watch him enjoy a bright future, surrounded by children and grandchildren.
On the main street, he rides past with flowers in his hair, just as he did in her previous life. Xiao Qingluan leans against the window, gazing at him intently, but doesn't order her guards to go down and snatch him away.
As Qi Lu passes, however, he suddenly looks up. Xiao Qingluan jerks back, and the jade hairpin in her coiffure slips free and falls. He leaps forward and catches it between his fingers.
The Top Candidate's Story
Ever since returning to the capital, Qi Lu dreams every night of a woman. Her appearance is hazy and indistinct, but her eyes, fixed intently on him, are clear enough to be etched into his heart.
Those eyes don't belong to his betrothed.
When his mother brings up his marriage to his cousin again, Qi Lu inexplicably refuses.
He doesn't believe in ghosts or gods, and even wonders if he'd encountered something supernatural on the road to the capital.
Then, on the day of the parade with flowers in his hair, he feels a burning gaze and suddenly looks up. There she is, a woman in fine clothes upstairs, with the exact same eyes and features as the woman in his dreams.
The top candidate, a young man who's found success early, has many ideas about his future, but becoming a prince consort is not one of them.
And yet, in his dream, he clearly sees himself pleading with the emperor to be buried in the Princess's mausoleum after his death!

Synopsis for "The Alluring Minister":
Chi Yu was once a princess of a small kingdom, graceful and lovely, so light she could dance in the palm of one's hand. Her father and brothers offer her to the emperor in exchange for protection from a greater power. In barely a month, the emperor dies, and Chi Yu becomes the youngest empress dowager.
Regent Su Jin helps the six-year-old heir of Prince Xing'an ascend the throne. In public, he serves as the new emperor's minister and tutor, but in truth, he is ambitious. His ambitions reach far beyond the court.
In the deep night, with dew heavy in the air and warm incense drifting through the tent, Su Jin holds a flower branch and whispers, "A famous flower alone in the deep palace is the one most in need of protection. From now on, I will protect Your Majesty."
Chi Yu loves flowers. Whenever she wakes with her back and waist aching, she sees a new peony planted in the courtyard.
The verdant, silent Ci'an Palace had once been devoid of flowers, but after Chi Yu moved in, they began blooming one after another, all planted by Su Jin himself.
One day, Chi Yu wakes early. In the faint light of dawn, she sees his long fingers pinching a branch as he carefully packs the soil around it. "You're awake so early, Your Majesty. Have I not been attentive enough?"
Behind the lattice window, Chi Yu's slender waist trembles as she anxiously looks away from him.
The young emperor is goaded into wanting to take the reins early, so he lies in ambush with countless archers inside the palace's outer enclosure.
The regent is killed on the spot, and the young emperor is overjoyed. But Chi Yu suddenly feels as if something inside her has gone empty.
She doesn't go with the emperor to the ancestral temple. Instead, she sits before her dressing table, holding the first Zhao-pink peony to bloom in the courtyard, and weeps.
"Are Your Majesty's tears for me, or for that presumptuous young emperor?" Su Jin stands behind her, his tall figure carrying a chilling aura.
Chi Yu's beautiful eyes widen as she stares at the reflection in the mirror. She thinks she's seeing a ghost, and her little face turns pale.
Su Jin takes the perfectly blooming Zhao-pink peony from her fingertips and pins it beside her hair. He bows his head to inhale its fragrance. "With Your Majesty here, how could I bear to die?"
