She Builds Infrastructure in the Cold Palace

Bai Qiongyue had imagined transmigrating, but she never expected to end up in the Cold Palace!

Since she was already here and couldn't leave anytime soon, she might as well make do... Pah, she refused to settle.

She could repair roofs, clear drainage ditches, build stoves, make charcoal, forage for wild greens, and catch fish and shrimp. There wasn't much she couldn't do.

Once life improved, the mistress she served stopped losing her mind, too. Together with a group of abandoned consorts, she made the days lively and enjoyable.

One day, the new emperor, who had just successfully seized the throne, stood in the highest pavilion in the imperial garden, gazing down at the vast palace grounds. Pointing at a garden of flowers and willows that looked like a paradise, he asked curiously, "What place is that?"

The chief eunuch looked at the colorful kites floating above the garden and replied uncertainly, "The... the Cold Palace?"

A little eunuch started showing up at the Cold Palace for free meals. He was handsome, never came empty-handed, and was always eager to help, so Bai Qiongyue didn't mind setting out another place at the table.

The imperial palace really was something else. Even the little eunuchs discussed matters of state at every turn, which inspired Bai Qiongyue to speak freely about whatever came to mind.

The day the little eunuch arrived in imperial robes, carrying the Empress's seal to take her away, Bai Qiongyue was even more astonished than when she'd first transmigrated. "Little eunuch, look at you, all grown up! The new emperor's barely warmed his throne, and you've already kicked him off it?"

The new emperor, Zhao Heting, smiled and replied obligingly, "You flatter me, Qiongyue."

On their wedding night, the ever-curious Bai Qiongyue accused him through tears: "You lied to me."
