Marsh Orchid

[An occasionally updated short story about two little souls comforting each other.]

May 5, 2026: Fixed a typo. Planning to resume updates soon!

A mountain town is not necessarily a secluded paradise. It could also be a swamp.

Muddy, filthy, and sunless. One wrong step, and you could fall into the abyss.

Have you ever seen a swamp orchid? It grows in the mire, beautiful and precious.

Everyone dreams of owning beautiful and precious things. People will stop at nothing to get them, scheming against one another, until they all end up trapped in the mire.

They struggle desperately through the swamp toward the orchid. Just before taking their last breath, they reach out, only to discover that the one guarding the orchid is a crocodile that had been lying in wait in the swamp all along.
